Deals are happening all over the NBA. So many players are changing teams it’s hard to keep them straight. And yet the best our GM can do is trade one young guard for another guard that is 10 years older—and draft a player no other team would have taken in the first round. This is why the Blazers are mired in mediocrity: they have a GM who can’t make deals, or gets the wrong end of the stick when he does.
Moving on from two starters and two bench rotation players is hardly doing nothing....Ayton, Ant, Bari and Banton are gone. That's a lot of change already and the offseason is young. What they won't do is muck up the books with the team for sale.
I feel like Ant’s expiring contract for Jrue’s with two more years guaranteed kinda mucks up the books.
I don't ..you have to pay a handful of vets at some point just to get to minimum salary requirements...better to pay a multiple champion, allstar, all nba vet that money than a middle of the pack project. Jrue is going to be invaluable to Scoot's growth. I also doubt Shaedon gets the bag this time around either. Tou and Deni are insanely cheap contracts for core players...paying Jrue has value
I get that some of you think Cronin sucks.... but what the actual fuck do you want him to do right now? He got rid of Ayton and Simons. Grant clearly has negative value so we can't trade him. WE NEED TO SEE WHAT SHARPE AND SCOOT CAN DO. What spot do you think this team desperately needs to upgrade right now? Point guard? Scoot and Jrue Shooting guard? Shae and Tisse Small forward? Toumani and Murray Power forward? Deni and Grant Center? Clingan and Yang Short of trading for a superstar, what move are you begging him to make going into this season?
I think Ant for Jrue is a huge win for us. I thought we got the better end of that deal when it included 2 second round picks. I just don’t think it’s necessarily cleaning up our books.
Anybody can get rid of players. The best GMs figure out how to replace them with better players. Cronin isn’t very good at that.
Toumani, Deni and Donovan are all upgrades over their predecessors. Dame forced his way out. We still have multiple picks and swaps because of it.
As it stands right now this has to be the worst shooting roster in the NBA, right? If Cronin does nothing the rest of the summer to address that obvious need then that's another notch on his "I'm a big fat stinky turd of a GM" belt.
3 years remaining on the contract... . Dame is injured, and will miss next season. Bucks are in a desperation mode to keep Giannis happy. Beal is basically a minimum contract type player now. Suns are desperate and are trying to duck the tax this season. Grant is over-paid, but he's playable. Blazers are not in desperation mode. These are not comparable situations.
Banton played 17 mpg for us last year and is now gone. Murray was a fringe rotation guy for us as well and frankly doesn't deserve to sniff the floor for us next year if he can't hit the broadside of a barn. There's minutes to go around. I'm not sure how anyone can disagree that Cronin needs to address our shooting issues at the very least right now if he's serious about competing for the postseason next year, which the Holiday trade seems to signal he is....
Say what? They got rid of 2 awful players in ayton and simons. Yes we are gonna be awful but addition by subtraction to at least set us up to make the playin in 4 years is something. Think its actually been a good off-season trade wise. Glad to have those two off the team, even if they were the best of the worst on this team.
