They'd have to throw in some additional salary, right? How could the Celts rather have Ant (who they don't even want) rather than the 9th pick. It's gotta be extra salary that would have had them paying a premium.

sure sounds like the offer was for White; Fisher wasn't so sure about it being for Jrue as well

besides that, Toronto didn't have any expiring contracts and Boston did not want salary past next season....and has been working hard to trade Simons

This one clarifies the target was White.

    Likely was:
    Holiday + White <=> Barrett + Quickley + #9

Sounds like Blazers knew Dame was gonna sign when the Jrue trade was finalized.

Are we going to see a combo Dame/Jrue press conference?

So Toronto offered #9 and RJ Barrett for Jrue.

I would've been stoked if Ant had that much trade value on draft night.

Might bode well for Jrue trade value if Blazers decide to trade him at some point.

    https://www.clnsmedia.com/fischer-r...s-9th-pick-for-derrick-white-or-jrue-holiday/

    "
Fischer said that the Toronto Raptors offered the Boston Celtics the No. 9 overall pick in last month’s draft and forward RJ Barrett for Holiday. However, the Celtics liked Portland’s offer of Anfernee Simons more due to their financial situation.

NBA insider Jake Fischer, from the Stein Line Substack, joined The Garden Report this week and reported that the Toronto Raptors floated the No. 9 overall pick in last month’s draft for White. They even grew aggressive enough to offer the ninth pick for Jrue Holiday, Fischer believed, but wanted to offload RJ Barrett’s contract in a potential deal. Given their luxury tax, apron and long-term flexibility concerns, Barrett’s two-year, $57.3 million deal proved too rich and the Celtics traded Holiday for Anfernee Simons’ $27.7 million expiring.

They could've offered 10 picks and RJ Barrett, Boston could not take on a long contract. The only reason they traded for Ant is that he's an expiring.

Boston could have routed the pick and RJ to a third team.

We really don't need the cap relief next year so it would be fine for us to take on RJ deal and a prime asset if we decide to pivot from Jrue.

They’re just mad cause we turned Anfernee Simons into 3 MIL picks (post Giannis), Camara, Avdija and Jrue Holiday.

Take notes NBA, chef Joe Cronin is cooking harder than anyone ever has.

Yeah I think this summer has ultimately played our very well for Cronin.

But still 5 west teams with much better outlooks the next 2-3 years
    OKC SAS HOU MIN DEN
LAL are a wildcard - they're probably praying Luka signs extension next month.
GSW I'd rank much higher next season but they're gonna expire at any moment.

Blazers could probably immediately compete for 4th in the East after CLE NY ORL

Dallas is the other perplexing roster, actually a bit like ours. An odd mix of old vets and youth.

I watched the video, and while Fisher was certain about the offer for White, he was a lot less certain about the offer for Jrue. Wouldn't have mattered as the Celtics want to exit 2nd apron hell and Ant's expiring contract gets them out a year early

    wut?

they turned Simons into Holiday and his 3 year contract. Nothing else

I’m thrilled to turn beta iso mouse Simons into alpha lion pt of attack master Holiday and lock him up before Ant walked for nothing or got bought out. Big upgrade. I’m also glad we’re not going for cheap mediocre vets but paying for all stars to give this team an identity again and lead our future core to develop allstar habits from these vets. I think Joe took a couple of giant swings here that could be homeruns and any investment made this year can be recouped on the price tag of the team when sold

Is it weird Jrue and Ant haven’t had pressers yet? I know Bos is trying to
flip Ant but what’s our excuse. I don’t care what CB says I wonder if Sac or Tor is trying to pry him away.
