WNBA players and coaches across the league are complaining about bad refereeing. All refs go through same pipeline but since NBA are paid more than twice as much they get the best. WNBA refs are paid less than NCAA so they really are bottom of the pile.

I am 100% on board with getting quality refereeing across the board in the WNBA.

No problem with that at all.

*Edit* @Natebishop3, if the attention Clark is bringing to the game solves that then that would be a good thing.

But I seriously doubt that the WNBA is going to be able to compete financially with the NBA and NCAA for refs.

Maybe they could get NBA or NCAA refs to work in the off-season?

I don't know what the solution is but the solution definitely should not be to call the game differently for Caitlin Clark. Just like I don't want NBA refs calling games differently for star players. That's one of the problems I have with the NBA.

No other star brings fans to the arenas like CC.

In that video he showed it. She sells out arenas. The Fever averaged 5,000 more people in attendance than the champion Liberty last season.

They averaged more fans than some of the pro men's teams LOL

She has the most jerseys sold. Since she joined the league their merch sales have gone through the roof.

SHE HAS THE SECOND MOST JERSEYS SOLD OF ANY BASKETBALL PLAYER.

I don't fucking care about her ignorant fans showing up to watch her and bitch about how mean every other team in the league is. I don't care to watch a circus. I want to watch basketball.

I have no problem with Caitlin Clark, I have a huge problem with this idea that the league needs to call games differently for her.

*Edit* Or that the other players should somehow treat her like she walks on water and just let her score? Give me a fucking break. That's insanity.

Because it's fucking moronic. If you want the league to grow and continue to make more money SO THE OTHER WOMEN CAN MAKE MORE MONEY, you need to prevent Clark from constantly getting hurt. I'm not saying don't call fouls. I'm saying come down hard on people who do this ridiculous hard foul shit. Toss em out. Fine them. And the fines have to hurt. Sophie said the fine was like a few hundred dollars. It's a joke. If Clark gets seriously hurt, or decides to leave the league, they are fucked. Period. End of story.

When has Caitlin Clark been injured from a foul? I'm sorry but this is a false narrative.

It's not about being hurt. It's about the threat of being hurt. That shit is cumulative. Jordan's body was beat to shit after that series with the Pistons. You don't see how that foul on her against Connecticut could have seriously hurt her?

Once again, I am fine with improving officiating across the board.

I don't think that's going to happen quickly, if it happens at all.

I would much prefer that it stays the same as it is rather than calling the game differently for different players.

It is the responsibility of the players to adjust to the physicality of the game (which is why I come back to Clark adjusting her game) and the way the game is being officiated, not the responsibility of the league to force the officials to call the game differently for specific players.

*Edit* I 100% agree that if somebody is obviously trying to hurt another player they should be fined and ejected to a degree that they will no longer do that kind of thing.

But I haven't seen very many fouls where players are obviously trying to hurt any other players.

Then start by increasing the fines for ejections or flagrant fouls. A few hundred dollars is a joke.

Start coming down on hard fouls in general.

But there are plenty of examples of leagues changing the rules to protect their stars. The NFL has massively changed their rules to protect QBs. The NBA took out hand checking and cut down on physical play. The NBA is night and day compared to what it was in the 90s. This is not a new concept.

    https://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/i...p-says-orchestrated-sex-toy-tosses-wnba-games

A self-described crypto enthusiast told ESPN he is part of a group that orchestrated recent sex toy stunts that have disrupted at least three WNBA games in the past 10 days.

The man, who spoke on the condition of anonymity over video conference Wednesday, said that the stunts were meant to market a crypto coin that his online community created. The WNBA and all its "controversy," he said, made the league a logical target.
