Either I missed this months ago, or this just came and I missed it being busy with personal matters. Either way, if there is a thread please merge. Couldnt fond one.

Anyhow overall I like the divisions look and understand how incredibly complex, figuring out travel, schedule, logistics, etc that goes into this. With that said, Something glaring stands out that I cant find any info out on as to why it is the way it is.

    upload_2025-8-17_5-13-21.png

The southest division looks fine, as well as most of the trams in the other two. However to call minnesota and okc nw teams is a slap in the face to us nw’ers.
Then you have Phoenix as a Pacific team?

Look at the miles now to travel just to our divisional rivals!!! The longest traveling team in the nba just got more miles added to the schedule and tossed into a division with 2 champs in the last four years and a conference finals team in Minni.

Was it overlooked? The fix is simple to me. Move Phoenix to the NW division, relabel it midwest division and move Portland to the Pacific division.

    Easy.

Does anyone know why this wasn't done to begin with? Why was a west coast team omitted from the pacific division? Why have a nw division when there is only one team in the nw??

What am I missing here? With such an easy answer, why did the nba screw us over again????

OKC was Seattle and they never changed it. Minnesota is mind boggling. Not sure why they can’t just put Sacto in with us instead.

Mod, can someone edit the title? This is not new. These divisions have been like this for decades.

    I don't get it either.
I guess im like years behind, but why not just swap Portland and Phoenix and change northwest to midwest?

    Seems like a no brainer.

There isn't any reason to realign because of miles flown, since they have, for the most part, and equal weighted schedule.

False - Blazers play all division opponents 4 time, other conference opponents primarily 3 times.

I haven't actually done the calculations. Are you saying we dont travel further than all other teams by a significant amount, and thus there is nothing to alleviate by swapping Pdx with Pho?

I cant tell if that's green font or not. :)

And three of the four are conference finalists over the last four years. Two of which won it all.

Um, you might want to re check that.

    They only play a 4 teams 3xs a year.

    15 Eastern Conference teams = 30 games

    14 Western Conference teams = 56

So that means they need to cut 4 games to get to 82.

I'm saying it won't magically mean that travel less, because no matter what division they are in they're still like 600 miles to their closest opponent.

But arent Minni and Okc much further than the bay area? LA also being a bit shorter travel distance? So if we moved to the Pac conference, wouldnt thst significantly reduce travel miles?

963 miles from PDX to LA.

1910 miles from PDX to OKC

1728 miles from PDX to Minni.

looks like the miles would be reduced significantly with one small swap. In the mean time Phoenix doesn't have to travel further than to the bay area.

753 miles from pho to sac.

@julius what am i missing? This seems very significant to me?

Because it's realistically only 2 fewer road games.

Sorry. Can you explain like im a third grader? i see us having to travel about 1000 miles more per game on average than pho for in division games. If we play each one four times? 16k miles?

AI calculates pho travel for the upcoming season to be 46500 miles aprox.
AI shows PDX as 50k miles traveled.

Much less than I was thinking and I don't see how that is possible when the furthest division team from pho is less than 1000 miles and two of our division teams are like 1700 plus miles away.

Do they make them play Toronto 8 times to make up the miles or something? Lol.

they don't just do 1 game trips.

Also, we have to take into account the 4 fewer games will only be 2 road games.

If they're only playing Minnesota once on the road, they still play Milwaukee and Chicago. So they can consolidate those trips together.

Yes, they occasionally have weird 1 game trips, but like I said, this sound only change 2 road games.

And it's not like it's always the same team each year. One year it's Memphis they play once on the road. The next year, only play them once at home.

They're still travelling the same distance year to year.

    @julius so.
Do you want to just delete this stupid thread or keep it to show the world just how bright some pdx fans are? ;)

I think it's fine to keep it open (tho if someone else closes it I won't complain), as it could be useful IF and when the blazers move or if they actually expand into Vegas and Seattle. That would definitely call for a re-alignment.
