Hmm seems like they want a team on the west coast. Nevertheless looks like expansion is coming sooner than later

Why isn't there a half court or full court shooting contest in the NBA all star game?

And / Or make the 3-point shooting contest racks much farther back than where they are now (where possible, there is a limit in some spots).

How is that relevant to a real basketball game? Home runs seem more relevant to real baseball games.

Seems like half court or full court shots might be more of a gimmick than the home run Derby.

I'm not saying they shouldn't try it, just talking through the finer points.

People do get excited about logo 3s though...

If you are watching pros make 3 of five from half court I'm pretty certain that would draw some interest. Seriously what regular guy off the street is doing that?

I haven't watched the HR derby in a while, for some reason I always seem to be busy that night.

In my opinion, what's killed the dunk contest is the announcing team bagging on everyone instead of propping them up. I remember(obviously a long time ago) them making fun of Rudy Fernandez when he was in it. They shit on all the guys.
Imagine if in the HR derby, every time a guy didn't make a HR, they just started mocking the hell out of him, and if he barely clears the wall, them calling him out for not hitting bombs. It's lame to me, which is why, unless there happens to be a Blazer in it again, I don't watch the dunk contest. I can catch highlights without commentary if I want.

Sure. Just not sure if it would have the same appeal as the Home Run Derby.

That might be tough to recreate in basketball. Again, not saying they shouldn't try. Just talking it through.

The other problem is that the Dunk contest typically does not have the biggest stars in it. Why do I want to watch Mac McClung win the dunk contest? I really couldn't care less.

    Kobe never did it.

    LeBron never did it.

The two best dunk contests were the Jordan contest and the Vince Carter contest. People still talk about those. Nobody outside of Portland cares about Simons winning.

You’re using All Star game viewership numbers to judge the success of the league? Shit to be honest I think the only thing on in the middle of summer IS baseball. That league is on it’s deathbed.

So when does the process begin for Portland to start building a new stadium? If the expansion is going to happen sooner than later shouldn’t it start soon?

No. The team probably not start playing for at least 3 after they are awarded.

They did that with the shooting stars thing... I'm really not interested.

I do like the 3 pt contest.

Other than that I just don't care at all about Allstar weekend. People rip on the cup tournament - but its 1000x better than anything with allstar weekend. The cup is at the least real NBA games. I think in a dozen years there will start to be more history with the Cup and it'll have more meaning.

Damn I totally forgot Simons won the thing.

Yeah the dunk contest hasn't been interesting in a long time. When Blake Griffin brought out a crappy Kia car to jump over that had been on ads for the prior 90 minutes I gave up.

They should honestly have a retired player 3pt contest. I'd love to see Dirk, Ray Allen, and Reggie battle it out.

“MLB believes the strongest two candidates for expansion are Nashville and Salt Lake City, USA Today reported in July”

Yeaa Portland isn’t getting MLB. Put this shit to bed. Great effort tho
