    right..?

    My wife and I have been camping for 12 days...no internet. I opened this thread to see if there is any new information about the new owner and the sale timeline

    and somehow, Ghandi has entered the picture. I wonder if Ghandi could hit a three?

    Ian Furness was saying on the radio the other day Dundon is going to be a cheap horrible owner for the blazers

    Seattle sports podcaster and NHL broadcast host (Kraken). I've heard of him over the years. I'd assume he knows about NHL, and by extension, a litle about the owners of NHL teams. I don't know if he has any anti-Dundon agenda, and I don't know if Aldo is quoting him or not. Non-Portland perspectives may add something to the discussion...or not

    Pretty sure he worked for 910/1080/105 back in the day.

    He is just guessing based on Dundon's lack of wealth compared to the other NBA owners.

    But if the wealth wasn't there he wouldn't be approved to purchase the team...

    I didn't say he did not have wealth. I said he doesn't have as much as most of the other owners.
    Jody comes in as the 4th-wealthiest owner. Dundon will come in near the bottom. That doesn't mean he will be cheap; I am just saying
    that is probably why Ian made the comment. He is guessing

    It may matter less how much he has if he's willing to spend a greater percentage of it on his new toy.
    Think $100k pickup parked in front of a old trailer house.
    Dundon is the redneck drinking beer on the front porch at 10am, yelling at his old lady to bring him another one.
    And another one in this analogy is a young player with superstar potential. I hope.

    maybe....or he's looking at what Dundon has done in the NHL in terms of team payrolls

    I just checked and here is where Dundon's Carolina Hurricanes ranked in team payroll in terms of most-expensive-->least-expensive:

    2020-21 --> 25th of 32 teams (36-12)
    2021-22 --> 5th of 32 teams (54-20)
    2022-23 --> 5th of 32 teams (52-21)
    2023-24 --> 12th of 32 teams (52-23)
    2024-25 --> 15th of 32 teams (47-30)
    2025-26 --> 25th of 32 teams (may not be the final payroll yet, still the off-season)

    I don't know much about the NHL. So I can't say there's the same correlation between 'high-payrolls-->winning' in the NHL that there seems to be in the NBA. I remember reading that Dundon was a hardball negotiator on player contracts in the NHL, but I don't know if NHL players have the same leverage and their agents have the same power as NBA players and agents. I doubt it but maybe that's a bad assumption

    and as I mentioned earlier, it was Aldo who claimed that Furness said "Dundon is going to be a cheap horrible owner for the blazers". I would need to know if Furness actually said that or it was Aldo spinning what was actually said

    I don't think the source for the NHL salary cap is the same as the source for the NBA salary cap.

    I.e., the majority of the NBA salary cap comes from the TV contract, iirc, whereas in the NHL it's a mix of things, mostly ticket sales and merch sales.

    I think, tho I could be wrong, that the NBA salary cap is mostly made up/paid for by the TV contract, right? If that's true, the NHL is more out of pocket.

    The salary cap helps.

    Now, having an MLB team in Portland would be a different story. Hard to compete without a rich ass owner—the only Major sport without a salary cap.

    Yep, hopefully IF there is an actual shot at an MLB team coming to Portland, hopefully the PDP has a rich summabish in the wings.
