Raja Bell isn't flying in until Monday for the physical and Utah already alerted Matthews they aren't matching.

Utah tried to discuss a smaller 3 and 4 year deals but his agent wouldn't negotiate. He said they wanted the Full MLE, so KOC told him to go out and get it, then they'll consider matching. I was comparing the playoff stats.....

Matthews' comments are a bit misleading in this article. He said he would of signed for less, yet right out of the gates his agent was asking for the Full MLE. It's kind of disappointing to hear him talk about Utah's FO as if they didn't make an effort to sign him, when in reality his agent...

You can only offer more the MLE (or use cap space) to a player that hasn't been under contract for 3 years or more. Since Matthews is an undrafted FA, Utah could only offer the MLE. So by effectively using part of it to sign Bell, they can no longer match Matthews.

Utah just signed Raja Bell out of their MLE, so Matthews can't be matched now. I'm sure you guys will appreciate Matthews' hustle and grit, but that deal was just too much for Utah to match. Blazers might have overpaid a bit, but Matthews will be fun to watch for you guys. Good luck.

Josh Howard just hasn't been able to stay healthy the last few years and his stock has really plummeted. Its sad to see him come so far and then to have this happen to him during his prime.
