I think you'd go into it expecting to do that for the first year or two until it became obvious that the WNBA was not going to come around. At that point I think the other sponsors and venues would free up. As would major network backing. I would certainly rather go that route than accept less...

They could play in college stadiums. I'm sure a competing network or streamer would love to get those games. I doubt sponsorships would be much of a problem if you were truly starting a competing league. The reality is, the NBA and other owners would cave long before it ever got to this...

You can't stop them from working if they don't have a contract. The NBA can't tie it up. That would be kicked out of court almost instantly.
