I don't believe the current president or his staff are as capable as those who oversaw the Panama or Kosovo actions.
I think you'd go into it expecting to do that for the first year or two until it became obvious that the WNBA was not going to come around.
At that point I think the other sponsors and venues would free up. As would major network backing.
I would certainly rather go that route than accept less...
They could play in college stadiums.
I'm sure a competing network or streamer would love to get those games.
I doubt sponsorships would be much of a problem if you were truly starting a competing league.
The reality is, the NBA and other owners would cave long before it ever got to this...
It's moving about like I thought it would. I don't think there's any way either the state of Oregon or the city of Portland refuse to step up to keep the team here.
When did I say they don't deserve ROI? I said they would need to take a smaller cut. They'd still be getting ROI, just not the 40-60% of revenue they're getting now.
Or they can just let the players start their own league and actually lose any chance at ROI.
