Does anyone have an idea as to make bg's less plain ... I've tried adding stocks and patterns but they never seem to make the bg pop !Thanks in advance!

You can try adding c4d renders, some lightning effects...keep messing around until you find something that you like.

Lighting makes a huge difference. A nice way to add lighting or texture is by using blurs.Just draw some random lines or shapes...like for example rays coming from the player. Go to Filter >> Blur >> Gaussian Blur, and mess with that. You can also use the dodge tool. It makes things brighter. Just click your dodge tool and go around on your sig. Most important thing that always adds a lot is lighting effects. Filter>>Render>>Lighting effects (I think thats what its called)You have like 20 different preset effects that you can use...you can even make your own. This is great. Use it. Also, mess around with duplicating layers and changing their blending options.
