Barton for Sunderland?

So after attacking a teammate (allegedly from behind) leaving him unconscious and with a detached retina, Joey Barton has run off to the Algarve. There's a certain irony here. It isn't long since the same Barton was appealing to his brother to return home after fleeing abroad when under suspicion of a racist murder.

The PFA say they're prepared to keep supporting Barton and have done a lot of work with him on "anger management". Doesn't seem to have done much good, so far.

Barton is clearly a talented midfielder, the sort of player most clubs would like in their team. But to say he looks like trouble seems to be an understatement at the moment. Keano says that the thing he looks for most of all is character, and puts a huge premium on a united dressing-room where everyone works for one another. Given that, it would be a major surprise were we to see Barton on wearside. Wouldn't it?

He's a good player but he desperately needs some sort of help as you said the anger management is not working, maybe someone like Keane would help him

I think Celtic should bid in for him, He would be a decent replacement for Neil Lennon.

not if barton gets em from behind like this incident. hes got a thing for damaging eyes like when he put out a fag in a team mates eye in 2004 or something. i think sunderland would be a good move because keane will scare te shite out of him lol

Bartons a good move 4 Sunderland Roy Keane would have no problems keepin him in check, if he attacked a sunderland player Keane wld probably knock him out!!

Lets face it, he really needs a manager like Keane or Mark Hughes.

As stated in my Transfer Predictions topic, I would like to see Rovers sign Barton.

If we cant control him then no-one can.

All u have to do is look at the list of "Trouble" players we have had success with in the past. (Craig Bellamy being the best example)

We also need a replacement for Tugay. I know he has just signed another deal and is a fantastic footballer, but he isnt getting any younger.

Regardless of wether or not Blackburn express an interest in Barton, it's still down to the player, and I can't really see a connection between Barton and Blackburn. You shouldn't think I'm smiting the possibility however, like you I'd love to see him at Rovers.

Barton and Savage in midfield. 9 men on the pitch after 90 mins would become common place! [IMG]

U have a good point there.

If our dicipline record (on the pitch) isnt bad enough, can u imagine it when we have Barton, Savage, Reid and Bellamy in the squad!

I can especially see Savage, Bellamy and Barton kicking off with each other. I guess thats where Mark Hughes comes in.
