Calgary Stampeders offensive lineman John Comiskey today announced his retirement from football. "Upon re-signing with the Calgary Stampeders this winter, my intentions were to get back on the football field this spring at McMahon," said Comiskey. "I was excited to return to my former club, however during the course of off-season training, my knee didn't prove to me that it could undergo another season. Unfortunately, every player that ever takes the field is faced with the notion of retirement sooner or later and for me, the time is now. "I would like to thank my friends and family for their support throughout my career. I would also like to thank John Hufnagel, Kris Sweet and the Stampeders organization for the opportunity they provided in January and I also need to thank the entire CFL family for their support over the years." Comisky re-signed with Calgary in January and had previously played for the Stamps from 2005 to 2007. He was originally drafted by the Stampeders in the third round (19th overall) of the 2005 CFL draft and spent three seasons with the Stamps. He was traded to the Eskimos prior to the 2008 campaign and spent two seasons with Edmonton, where he was nominated as the team's most outstanding lineman in 2008. "Obviously this wasn't how I envisioned this working out when I signed John this off-season," said Stamps head coach/general manager John Hufnagel. "But with that said, we respect the decision John had to make and wish him all the best in the future."
