After watching the WSU game, our defense needs to "PRACTICE!!!" on 3rd down dump passes and slants!!!! Goodness first down we stick, second same, then third we give up 8-10 yards against not great teams. What happens when we play Stanford and USC? Both of these teams have real QB's and real talented recievers and TE's in abundance! I kept thinking at yesterday's game Luck is going to tear our secondary apart! Our secondary needs to improve and "I KNOW" USC and Stanford is going to attack it all game long. Thoughts?
I have been concerned about our defense all season. With Luck coming up soon, I am definitely worried but there's just not much we can do about it. We are starting freshman at the corners. That's just how it is. Our LBs are strong, and our safeties are really good, but we are trying to replace some very good players that were on our defense last season. We have significantly less takeaways this year and it shows. We have, however, done a great job in the red zone and our "bend but don't break" defense has been successful. If we lose to Stanford I will be sad, but that's a good program with a great QB and there's nothing shameful about that.
I agree but let's use freaking rovers to help out, and let's occasionally run a safety blitz to keep QB's on their toes! We are undersized and young in the secondary so Aliotti better get creative cause USC and Stanford has huge recievers and TE's that will take all we have to bring down!
Our "bend but don't break" defense is predicated on not allowing receivers to get behind us. So we play off more and the slant becomes an easy weapon. But I also think we need to belly up more on those guys and take some of those routes away.
Bend don't break is great for the WSU's and Beavers of the conference but USC and Stanford is toooo talented to let them have a cushion to run with like that!
Watching USC and Stanford play yesterday made me nervous! They both have some great players!!! Glad USC is at home!
Stanfords TE's are huge! USC recievers are like 6'4! I think we should put Colt at OLB for the Stanford game. He played LB in school and he's fast enough and punishing enough to make their TE's have a very long day over the middle and tall enough to pic off some passes further he's doing nothing on offense right now cause chip wont put him in, and we could use him elsewhere where we are in need!
I think Brian Urlacher every time i see that kid! He's a freakish athlete, and we need run stop support and height in the middle for the dump pass!
Next week we will probably have Harris and Gildon back in the rotation. It didnt click with me that two of our top corners were both out. They looked vulnerable but also the only 4 who played CB - Troy Hill (RS FR), Avery Patterson (SO), Ekpre Olomu (True FR) and Mitchell (RS FR) Against UW we will (probably) get an instant shot in the arm with skill, and experience.
UW is a game the DUCKS need to focus and kill their will in the first half... UW is not a bad team at all!! Some might call this a hiccup game. I agree!!
