You dont have to fast, its optional. But people do it to get good deeds. I am doing it for that.

    1 more hour to go

I AM STARVING!! I am sorta shaking. I need food or water..

Also, like you can tell your P.E. teacher that you're fasting, and you won't have to run or anything.

Umair you have an hour left? Lucky you live in Houston. I live in California. I have 2-3 hours left.

    Question for everyone:
What type of food would you want when your fasting?
    I'll post the answer later.

Props to you guys. I'm not Muslim but I can tell it is very tough. I find it a little weird, but every religion is different. Nonetheless good luck.

The answer is fast food. Some Non-Muslim people fast too. They try to see how diffucult it is. Many people who aren't Muslim like to fast, don't know why.

Yea there is fasting in Christianity.

Matthew 6:16-18 talks about how not to fast, and pretty much just emphasizes that when a Christian fasts it should be between them and God.

There are other verses that reference Christians fasting, but can't think of them off the top of my head.

I tried it out of curiosity a couple of years ago. Two of my co-workers were Muslims so I challenged myself to fast along with them. I only lasted two weeks and gave up. The hunger didn't really bother me, but I couldn't handle being thirsty all day long. It's also tough when lunch time comes around and people are trying to tempt you with a burger or bbq. I'm a sucker for good bbq.

    Good luck to you guys.

^^Yea. I hate seeing others eat while you're by yourself starving like heck. The only thing that I really feel during fasting is thirst. I get really thirsty during fasting.

Aspects of fasting exist in a lot of religions. Not for 30 days straight, but there is fasting nonetheless. It exists for Hindu's as well.

yeah well i believe greek-orthodox christians renounce certain foods like meat or fast for 40 days straight in a similar fashion to muslims before easter.

I wouldnt last a half an hour. Today alone I had like 9 bottles of water and I'll probably have 2 more before I go to sleep. Of course I was working today and it gets really hot since you've got to wear long black pants with a polo shirt and I basically just pick heavy stuff up all day.

I remember back in like 5th grade one of the kids who I went to school with was fasting but the school made the kids parents allow him to eat. I can still remember him looking pale all the time and basically not doing anything at school academically or athletically (he ALWAYS played soccer and owned everyone at it but he just couldnt move).

I'm just interested to know where the scientific proof of how not eating for 30 days makes you a better person.

That's the thing with religion, it doesn't tie itself down to scientific proof. That may make sense to you or completely baffle you, based on your own perspective. But to expect science to able to track "how good a person you are" is unrealistic. Moreover (and to be more specific to Islam), the supposed benefits of fasting during Ramadan (separation from the material, increased devotion to God, sense of community, etc.) are not quantitative criteria. To expect them to be proven scientifically is rather ignorant and naive.
