October 8th, 2008 By Kartik Krishnaiyer The continued outstanding form of the Houston Dynamo and the likelihood that Houston will win yet another MLS Cup title this year begs the question: Have MLS proponents and the league once again exaggerated MLS’ quality, this time in claiming how competitive the league is top to bottom. Consider this: Historically one of four clubs has been represented in every MLS Cup final. Los Angeles, DC United, Houston/San Jose, and Kansas City. If you look at the last thirteen tournaments in Mexico, they have produced nine different champions. In MLS however, only six teams (again taking the rightful liberty of counting San Jose and Houston as one team) have won the MLS Cup. For all the talk of a salary cap and squad limits creating more competitive and meaningful matches all it seems to do is dumb down the competition and allow the top front office people like Houston’s Oliver Luck, DC United’s Kevin Payne or the dearly departed Doug Hamilton to who led the Miami Fusion to the Supporters Shield and the LA Galaxy to the MLS Cup in consecutive seasons to dominate the league. In reality MLS rules which its fans and front office claim promotes competitiveness have in fact resulted in tremendous imbalance. Despite league manipulation at times and several ownership groups coming into the picture and then selling the team the general performance of the New Jersey franchise in MLS has been poor. If MLS were really the competitive product that is claimed, would not one of four ownership groups who have run the Metrostars/Red Bulls have gotten it right by now? The reality is anyone who doesn’t know the system backwards and forwards as Luck and Payne do are at a disadvantage under the current league structure. MLS Talk
To me honest MLS sucks. I don't see it getting any better, people were all hyped up and stuff when David Beckham came and stuff they thought he was going to make MLS like the European leagues. I laughed so hard!, here in America some people thought David Beckham was coming to play for the National team and they were like "Yeah we will be the best in the world in soccer" I laughed and asked them what the hell are you talking about they said David Beckham will play for U.S.A. I laughed really hard at that. MLS never never be like Europe and they try so hard! MLS fans suck, and they are bunch of pussies. They are scared to throw flares because they my getting arrest lol wow and they don't even know how to chant.
Best leagues in our continent are: 1- Argentinian Primera 2- Campeonato Brasileiro 3- Mexican Primera MLS isn't even top 10 in my list in our continent.
I think you mean hemisphere. All those leagues and the MLS are in the western hemisphere but two of the three are in South America, which is a different continent then North America. But yeah I get your point and those are three good leagues but what are the other seven leagues that are better?
It's weird. In England 4 teams (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool & Man Utd) have dominated for nearly 4 decades. Each having their glory time. People complain because of the Big 4 always dominating and such. Also how the English Premier League isn't very good compared to Other European leagues. Serie A (Italy) and La Liga(Spain) are the main rivals. Yet whenever we play these teams in cup competitions the big 4 nearly always win. and win well. Liverpool beat Inter milan last season over 2 legs. As Did Arsenal against AC Milan. And not forgetting Arsenal's 5-1 win over Inter Milan in 2003 i think. also Arsenal beat Real Madrid and Juventus on their road to the CL Final. Just Relised I've Gone WAAAAY off-topic. MLS isn't very competitive in the way that it hasn't got a strong Fanbase like European leagues and if say Galaxywere to play Sau Paulo of Brazil they would get absolutely Raped Beckham or not.
If I want to watch minor league soccer, I'd watch the MLS. I rather just click on the English premier league if I do decide to watch some. ITs not on TV and when it is, its poorly marketed so I don't even know when. I enjoy the sport, but I can;t support a half assed product.
Lol precisely. I was Watching Goalissimo last night. It's a program that broadcasts in Britain and provides a Weekly round-up and Highlights of matches in all leagues. Anyway it came onto the MLS it wasn't L.A. Galaxy or the Revolution so don't ask who it was. It was so boring the only thing keeping me awake (It broadcasts at like 2AM)was the hilarious Commentators. "And its a Penalty Kick to be taken on the Penalty Kick Spot, Will the Goalkeeper save it or will Angel Score..............OHHHH MYYYY GOOODDDDD amazing Penalty Kick by Angel!!!" Pure Comedy
Guys if you want to watch, real football just go to www.MyP2P.eu and you can watch the best football there. I'm sorry that you have to watch stupid MLS, I think god cursed the American people to suck at football this bad! lmao!
