Im trying to do some lighting on my BG for a sig, but wutever I make lighter, the rest goes black. All I want to do is put lighting on a BG without changing anyhting else. What am I doing wrong?

Ohh I get what you're doing.Ok...here's how you use lighting effects.1) Create a NEW layer. - Make sure this layer is on top of the layers you want to be affected. - Paint this layer ALL WHITE.2) Make sure this layer is selected and go to: Filter >> Render >> Lighting Effects. - Choose your effect and press ok.3) You will get the affect on a white layer. Change the blending options to whatever you want. (Overlay, Soft light, whatever) - You can try different things with this like fixing the opacity, or duplicating the layers, etc. I think thats what you were having trouble with.

my tip, never use the lighting effects to get lighting in the bg. find a stock and set it on linear dodge or something like that, draw soem lines and blur them and set them to overlay or something haah.
