Just 24 hours after unveiling Brazilian striker Brandao, Marseille announced the signing of former Bordeaux , Arsenal and Lyon forward Sylvain Wiltord from Rennes.

Wiltord, a Euro 2000 winner with France and four times Ligue 1 champion with Bordeaux and Lyon, joined OM on Thursday on a six-month deal. The 34-year-old's professional career spans 16 years since he started with Rennes back in 1993 and he has played over 300 Ligue 1 matches, was crowned top scorer in the league in 1999 with Bordeaux (22 goals) and played 92 times for France.

"He's an experienced player who has an exemplary approach to the game and will also have a great impact on the atmosphere and team spirit," said OM's Belgian coach Eric Gerets.

"Everyone I asked only had positive things to say and I'm convinced he'll bring a lot to this team."

With injuries to first-choice strikers Mamadou Niang and Bakari Koné, Wiltord and Brandao, who completed his move from Shaktar Donetsk earlier in the week, may be rushed into the OM squad for Saturday's home match against bottom club Le Havre.

Marseille are currently fourth on the ladder with 35 points, four behind leaders Lyon.
