Following Arsenal's show of determination and quality to win a point at Stamford Bridge yesterday. A point that leaves Chelsea 8 point adrift of the Premiership early pace setters, Jose Mourinho is starring is first barren season in the face and he should realise that now. ManU have made a blistering start to the Premiership this season with Giggs, Scholes & Heinze all like new signings in the team whilst Chelsea have plotted their slow start all by themselves. They let go arguably two of their best players in Gallas & Gudjohnsen, relegated the two of the most effective wing players (Joe Cole & Arjen Robben) to the bench in order to accomodate big money names (Michael Ballack & Andriy Schevchenko). Had Robben and Cole featured for Chelsea this season (like they did last season) it is easy to see Chelsea wear out opponents more from the wings like Aaron lennon did to them at White Hart lane. So whilst Mourinho has shown that he has respect for big names over the team completeness by consistently picking Ballack and dropping Robben/Cole, Ryan Giggs and Chritiano Ronaldo have rejuvanated ManU through the wings, cause let's face it Michael Carrick has been a disappointment at 18million, thus far. If ManU can steer clear of injury to key players such as Giggs, Ronaldo, Vidic & Van Der Saar, then I use this Medium to congratulate Alex Ferguson on a ninth premiership title. As for Chelsea, if they continue to narrow their midfield with Ballack, Lampard, Essien & Makelele, they should expect a barren season (may be League Cup consolation) as they can easily be picked off in Europe playing with this midfield and an out of sorts Schevchenko. I am not doubting the ability of Schevchenko & Ballack but it is alrite picking up points against Watford & Sheffield united with this unbalanced side, it is a whole different proposition trying to negotiate your way past Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Man U or Arsenal with such a midfield
To suggest that Mourinho is starring at a barren season is more than a little abusrd, given the current situation. Chelsea qualified with consumate ease from their Champions League group as winners, which is quite remarkable considering they had two of the best teams in Europe with them. United in contrast did not have the same quality challenging them and found it quite a challenge to progress. On the domestic front, Chelsea are into the quarter finals of the Carling cup, something which Manchester United were unable to do, as well as still being in the FA cup (I know every prem club still is before anyone says anything. In the premiership, United have a nice lead, but it is easily summountable, given the games in hand, and the fact United have nasty trips to Stamford Bridge, Emirates, WHL, etc still to come. In addition, Chelsea have been woefully below par this season and yet still find themselves in a relatively good position. United, in contrast, have been playing very well, almost to their full potential, and yet still only have a small advantage. When Chelsea start to perform and United have their annual blip tings will change.
i think it'll be a race to to the finish...im going to give iunited the edge since they want it more and fergie will never say die
