They probably didn't cover the spread. When you see something like -6.5, that team is the favorite and you subtract 6.5 from their score and they still have to win for you to win the bet. Add 6.5 for +6.5. That help?

gambitnut is correct. These teams won the game but did not cover the spread. The spread is a way to make both sides more equal to bet on in Vegas, and we use it the same way for the contests.

    From the NFL contest:

Football spreads consist of one team being elected as the favorite, and the other team, the underdog. Here is an example of a typical football spread:

Miami Dolphins +3, New York Jets -3

The favorite will always have a minus sign before the number; where as the underdog will always have a plus sign in front of their spread. In this scenario the Jets are the favorite and Miami is the underdog. How does this work for your pick? Let's say you picked Miami +3. If Miami wins the game straight up or loses by 2 points or less you win. If the Jets win the game by 4 or more than your pick would lose. If the Jets win by exactly 3 points then taking either side would result in a tie or "push". If you picked the Jets in this scenario then they would have to win by 4 points for you to win the pick.

Pick Em is over. We're working on new contests to give away cash prizes. Right now we're hoping to shake out any issues with the Sportsbook simulation so we can be confident in offering a monthly cash prize.

I'm working on an NBA contest as well.

Congrats to Old Bob who won the last NFL Pick Em!
