Troy Smith was the key and clearly this game is going to be used as an example many times for how a QB makes the difference. Texas returned most of their team but Vince Young. Ohio State loses a lot of their team. 9 guys on defense but Troy Smith returns and Ohio State wins. I think the Buckeyes have the ability to run the table although I did say it'd be a year where the two BCS Title Teams meet with 1 loss each. Nice win for the Buckeyes. Texas is got some work to do with Colt McCoy. I don't know if they can beat OU.

GO BUCKS! James Lauranitis looked good last year and looks like he's gonna help fill the void left by our three previous Backers(his dad was one of the road warriors from WWF fame).

Ohio St.'s defense deserves a lot of credit. McCoy really wasn't that bad all considered. He wasn't great throwing the ball, but his legs were making a difference. I think they still beat OU.

Pitcock showed me why he's considered the best DT in the country. He was penetrating all night. He and Lauranitis (doesn't that name just sound like a disease you contract or something?!) were two huge difference makers for the game.

That all said, now you see why I've ranked Texas so much lower than most people have. I've said from the beginning that I didn't like that team without Vince Young. Last year, I thought the OL was overrated because of VY, I do think they're better this year though. USC was the best team last season. Texas just got the best performance from a dynamic player at the most important position on the field. Texas should still have the talent to be OU. I will say that if the pass defense doesn't improve then Texas Tech will give them a huge scare.

    LSU/Az was a great game.

As for the Ohio St/Texas game, Mack Brown was back to being his usual lackluster, ununspiring self. It appears now more than ever the Vince Young was the leader on that team.

Troy Smith should get serious Heisman consideration. However IMO, the pucker factor for Brady Quinn & Adrian Peterson is off the charts and that is who will finish 1-2.

I think this was the really key to the game. Mack Brown was saying all week that he was going to save his challeneg until the 4th quarter. Had he done that Texas might have had a chance. He could have challenged the rushing touchdown but Pittman and maybe they could have stopped them because even though i'm a Buckeyes fan I didn't see a real good angle and i'm not sure if he was in.

Overall though i'm happy the Buckeyes won. Had Troy Smith played the full game last season I think that they might have won that game, but it's in the past and we have the future to look ahead to.

One point though that nobody has really talked about is how the Texas defense really had one gameplan. That was to stop Ted Ginn. They didn't really do that and they lost the fact that Anthony Gonzalez is a very good WR as well. The Texas gameplan was flawed. The real player they should have tried to stop was Troy Smith. If they had shut him down it might have been a bit different game. Like Porky said earlier Ohio State had the right gameplan and trying to go after McCoy.

One more thing to add is that Ohio State doesn't have the safety net they have had for the past few seasons. The kicker this year isn't that great. He missed a 28 yarder. I didn't see it because I had just gotten home from work but still the Bucks don't have a clutch kicker anymore.

Ohio State looked very dominate. The only score Texas had was thanks in part to a terrible personal foul call on a previous play.
