I think im seeing alot of penalties happening in the leagues even in the WC and other championships. Allot of them are diving, some are jersey pulling, some are small pushes and some are undeserved hand balls. IMO a referee should never put the whislte in his mouth unless its a tackle from behind or that much of a mess in the penalty area.

If there is that much penalties going on then the game would loose its taste and i wouldnt want to watch it.

What do you guys think? [IMG]

It's not that hard to avoid penalties, just don't foul people in the penalty area and you are 99% safe. If anything there should be more penalties, not less imo.

There shouldn't be more than 2 penalties in one game, then it just gets ridiculous. The game wouldn't be fair with just both sides scoring by penalties. It encourages more players to start diving. [IMG]

There is the other argument that some players dive because the referee won't give a foul otherwise in the box. if a defender is pulling the jersey of an attacker in the penalty box, then a penalty must be given. it's hard enough to fend off legal challenges when you are making inroads to goal, but to have a player you have beaten tug you back and prevent progress, that has to be a penalty. unfortunately a lot of refs will not give it unless the player falls to the ground.

If u think penalties are that bad... try asking ooijer(Blackburn) how it feels..
the lad has given up more penalties than sheva can score, which is 4 vs 3

I think penalties are a crucial turning point in a match ( unless your losing 3-0 and its the 88th minute or something) and they should only be awarded when deserved. Divers (Cough) Xavi Alanso yesterday against arsenal) should be persecuted. And i'm not a hypocrite because i can admit arsenal have had their fair share of incidents but i still think diving is the worst act of cheating a footballer can do
