Should players on loan be allowed to play against the clubs that they were loaned from? I believe that if a team terms a player as surplus to the squad and loan him out, they should allow the player to play against them afterall, they are not good enough and were loaned out. It is injustice to loan a player who you consider not good enough to another team and say he should not play against you even when they have signed a permanent agreement as seen between manchester united and everton where they had a gentleman's agreement that a goalkeeper that they (everton)have signed on a permanent basis should not play against his former team. Why everton should agree to that beats me and of course that cost them the match and also affected the league table because if howard had been in goal, everton wouldn't have lost and the end to the season would have been more eventful. Same also goes for united against watford. They thumbed watford the three times they played this season because the reserve goalkeeper was rusty and his standard is far below forster's. What if arsenal had played birmingham? Four regular players will not be dressed and of course it will affect the results. When chelsea played portsmouth it was the same thing with glen johnson. This doesn't do justice to the game because it favours the rich teams who buy players and loan the ones they consider surplus to poorer teams who then can't use them against them. Check out this scenario, Arsenal vs Birmingham as the last match of the season and birmingham need a draw to stay in the premier league but because they got players on loan from arsenal who has already established themseleves as the bedrock of their(birminghams) team they can't use them. What do you think will happen? I believe that players who are termed to be suplus to the squad and loaned out should be allowed to play against their former teams. Comments please.
They can there is a term on the loan contract Allowed to play against own team and cup matches it is up to the club the player is being loaned out from to accept these.
