Ronaldo Rejects City

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo believes the recent takeover of arch-rivals Manchester City will be good for English football, but rejected rumours that he is the next in line to join the revolution.

On a sensational final day of the transfer window, the Abu Dhabi United Group – worth an estimated $1 trillion collectively – bought out Thaksin Shinawatra at the City of Manchester Stadium.

A £32.4 million move for Robinho swiftly followed, with audacious and hefty bids for Liverpool’s Fernando Torres and David Villa of Valencia being rejected.

Incoming owner Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim has stated his ambition to bring the best players in the world to Eastlands, including The Red Devils’ highly-courted Portugal international, but the player himself has rejected talk of a switch to the blue side of Manchester.

"It's good in a way," said Ronaldo at said regarding the takeover. "It's good for football that a club that hasn't won for a number of years.

"It's like Chelsea when Abramovich arrived. They had not won for 50 years and he arrived and they won the Premiership once and then again.

"It's good for football and for any team, not only Manchester, but Arsenal, Liverpool.

"Money doesn't make a club great and it's not the most important thing, but I am not the one making the decisions, so you never know in the future.

"I don't see myself in the shirt of another Manchester team,” added in the Gazetta dello Sport.

Should City make a move for the 23-year old, the club's wealthy owners are reportedly prepared to pay £120 million to tempt their rivals.
