Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is set to face Rangers in the Champions League on Tuesday night after he returned to training at the club's Carrington complex. Rooney was surprisingly omitted from the squad for Saturday's 3-3 draw at Everton after a week of being splashed across the newspapers because of lurid allegations regarding his private life. Sir Alex Ferguson claimed he wanted to spare Rooney from "terrible abuse" at Goodison Park but Everton manager David Moyes believes United wanted to make an example of the star striker. Rooney returned to training as normal on Monday and it would be a major shock if Rooney did not face Rangers as United look to make a positive start to their European campaign. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=822736&sec=england&cc=5901
I've heard it was because one of his family members suffered a stroke but the newspapers are saying it's due to his alleged affair.
