The other added potent offense, a scoring, slashing presence whose long-range ability was among the league's best. Yet the versatile Darius Songaila and Cuttino Mobley may have honed their crafts as Kings for the last time. Songaila's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said it's likely the reserve will opt out of his contract before the June 30 deadline. Songaila, entering his third season, has a player option on the deal that would pay him $1.76 million in 2005-06. He was the 10th-highest paid King last season. "If had to guess, that's what would happen," Bartelstein said of Songaila testing the market. "He loves it in Sacramento, thinks the world of (coach) Rick (Adelman), (president of basketball operations) Geoff (Petrie) and the coaching staff. If he chooses to opt out, it's nothing against Sacramento. He just sees the value of a (new) contract." Bartelstein said he hasn't spoken to Petrie, though he plans to soon. Mobley, meanwhile, announced Friday on Fox Sports Network that he planned to decline his player option for next season. "I would love to play for Sacramento again, but I'm going to have the opportunity to opt out," Mobley said on "Best Damn Sports Show Period." "And I think it's best for me, and for my family and for the future of Cuttino."</div> Source I like Songalia's game a lot, and the Kings would regret losing him and getting nothing in return. Losing Mobley won't be as hard, if the Kings can bring back Maurice Evans. Evans looked great in the playoffs, and could develop into a defensive stopper for the Kings.
dam.. this sucks. I mean Mobley aint a big part of Kings anymore... but losing Darius hurts. he is gonna be good i think
I expected Songaila to go.As nice as he was the Kings can afford to lose him as theyre deep enough in the power forward spot.I like the idea of Evans being able to get more playing time but I dont like the idea of losing a good scorer and one of the top 3pt shooters last year in Cuttino. Now the Kings have to fill a spot at either the Small forward or shooting guard position.I hope Petrie gets some defense.
I think both are important to Sacramento...I think Mobley and Bibby have the potential of being one of the more dynamic backcourts in the league...Songalia is a great frontcourt performer who can shoot, rebound and run the floor, and eventually him and Miller will make a nice frontcourt duo..both are high-percentage shooters who can score and play defense, and both can also pass the ball very well...
try and keep both of them, keep Darius and trade mobley for someone who can play defense on the perimeter.
imo mobley is a big part of the kings he always gives them the extra 3s when they need them.. darius is also a good player and will improve day by day
I figured Mobley would go, and he's not a crucial part to the Kings lineup. He didn't fit in, and he had horrible nights just like Webber did. If the Kings are gonna go anywhere, they can't be having players who only show up and play one night out of the week. As for Darius, I really wish that he could be re-signed, he's a great guy and has lots of potential, even at his age (28 or 29, right?)
^ I doubt it.Orlando shipped him out for a reason.Dont see why theyd take him back.Hope Darius gets more shine on another team.
This is just a hypothetical scenerio, but if most of yall are saying that you dont want Mobley, would you consider trading him to us for David Wesley, who is cheap and whose contract will be expiring after this season? Wes averaged 11.9 ppg and 3.3 apg this season wil hitting 37.5% from 3...hes also a great perimeter defender and can play the point in a pinch... what do yall think?
I would dangle him to Denver for one of their 1st round picks. The Nuggets have been in search for a starting SG since Lenard got hurt. Cutino Mobley would fit their uptempo system and would get plenty of opportunities to shoot the ball. The Nuggets have been shopping a pick since they don't want to deal with basically drafting back to back. Sacramento has done a nice job with late draft picks and having two picks in 20's gives them the opportunity to trade up or at worst land two young players to replace Songalia and Mobley.
