<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Its great for Stoudamire to be 5-10, he has speed, and thats what we need to improve our fast-break, also we need a pure type of Point guard, Sura isnt that great because his rebounding is better than his dishing and since lots of point guards with great team mates average a lot of assists, like Nash this year, Stoudamire also may be aging but Van Gundy likes Veterans, so thats a big thing for Stoudamire and he may score at least 13 a night. Also I would least expect 7 dishes a game from him.</div> You're right I don't agree with you. But the problem is, I just don't understand you reasoning behind this. Stoudemire is a shoot first guard like everyone said so I'm pretty sure he could care less if Yao has the ball or not. Sura either matches or beats Stoudemire in every single category. You say how Stoudemire plays for a bad team- well shouldn't his stats look even better then since it gives him a chance to shine. In addition to that, Stoudemire is probably going to be overpaid through free agency anyways so I see no reason to pursue him. He takes too much shots and isn't really effective without the ball. Oh yeah, and I agree with Julio about the rebounding thing. What do you like want to build up Yao's career or something? Who cares, as long as its Houston ball I think its fine.
Im saying because Stoudamire plays for a bad team, he is not going to make a lot of dishes, Just look at Steve Nash, I know Stoudamire isnt Steve Nash, but Steve Nash averaged 8 Assists with Dallas, then he went on to Phoenix and played with better players, his dishing went to 11 and a half a game.

I mean, they've got Adbur Rahim, Miles, Randolph, Telfair, and Ratliff. It really isn't that bad of a lineup so Stoudemire should have been able to dish some assists to his teammates. You compare him to Nash and how the MVP went from 8 to 11 this year. Yeah, but Nash went to a team that actually suited his playing, which is a fast paced running game with little or no defense. The problem is Stoudemire doesn't fit here. He's better off running on the break like you said before but this is Van Gundy style here. Damon needs to know how to run the half court sets and learn to play without the ball since McGrady will be handling the ball alot too.
Well, Stoudamire could maybe learn all that, I just think we should take a shot at him, he might not be a good fit, but we need to expirement, plus we dont have anyone else to sign with our MLE, we are most likely drafting a PF, like Ronny Turiaf for example and he needs minutes to work out good, also on the news it said that Carroll Dawson is interested in Damon Stoudamire and before you say anything, remember the Jim Jackson and Boki trade for David Wesley, everybody was mad but look how it turned out, we are 42-20 with Wesley. Also just because some transactions seem bad doesnt mean they are bad, trading Webber, all the Kings fans were angry about this but look at the trades that Carroll Dawson did T-mac, Juwan Howard and Tyronn Lue (great trade) Jon Barry for Tyronn Lue ( Jon Barry is deadly at 3s) David Wesley for Boki Nachbar and Jim Jackson ( looked bad but turned out great) Reece Gaines and 2-2nd round picks for Mike James.

He joined and they became a better team with Nash. The reason his stats were lower in Dallas is because he didnt have to do that much. When you got players like Dirk, Finley, Antoine Walker, and Antawn Jamison you dont really need to pass it to them to score. All of those players could score on their own. Stoudamire wouldnt fit a starting role with the Rockets. Stoudamire is a scorer. If he wants to pass it in to Yao but cant, he will most likely dribble and create shot for himself.

Not because we didnt think Welsey would work but because JJ was already playing great. Stoudamire to me just doesnt fit the starting role. And with great players like Mike James , and Jon Barry(if he stays) I dont see him getting much playing coming off the bench. It's not that Stoudamire isnt good, its just that we dont need him right now.
Jon Barry isn't a point guard, most of his minutes come from Wesley, Jon Barry said he is most likely going to retire if he doesnt come back. I just think Stoudamire would do great for us.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting YugoRocketsfan:</div><div class="quote_post">Yea, but Stoudamire plays for a bad team (Blazers), I think Sura is too tall to play the Point and I would like his dishing to be higher than his rebounding, also our team on some nights can we very bad from the free throw line and Stoudamire needs to learn how to get to the free throw line more during games and if Van Gundy can get Stoudamire to keep dishing it to Yao, i think Yao could average 20 a game next year. My predictions for Stoudamire's stats are at least 14,3,7. Many of Sura's dishes go to T-mac, or the open 3 point shooters. Also bad things bout Sura is that he rebounds, and some of the rebounds should be used by Yao, I want him to average at least 9 next season.</div>Since when has there been anything as too tall for a position? Magic Johnson was too tall to be a point guard? So was Penny Hardaway? Is Yao too tall for center at 7-6? Being above the norm height-wise isn't necessarily a bad thing at any position. Sura, because of his height advantage over most point guards, is able to see over them and make a better pass. Rebounding-wise, it also gives him an edge. Stoudamire being on a bad team also has nothing to do with his assists numbers. In his first two years with Toronto, he averaged 9 assists per with a bad team. Brevin Knight was second in the league in assists on the third worst team in the league, Charlotte. So you're saying that if Knight leaves Charlotte and goes to Miami, he'd have 15 per? That's ludicrous. While you might say that Stoudamire's 9apg is a good indicator of how good he is, note that his assists went down when he went to Portland and played with "better" players.

But I don''t understand the logic with ALL THESE UNDERSIZED players the Rockets get. That's what kills me. You already have a 6'1 shooting guard. So what do you do? You top that with going after a 5'11 point guard. The hardest part to swallow is we got to see at first glance what our weaknesses were in the playoffs. Dallas KILLED us with size and athletism. So if that's case, then we need SIZE and ATHLETISM. What's so hard about that Mr Dawson. I wouldn't sign a player if I didn't see him being a differencemaker. With Stoudamire, I still don't see us beating Dallas in a 7 game series. I still see Jason Terry averaging 25 pts. I still see Stackhouse posting up like he's a center. I still see Finley raining 3's. So if you ask me, Stoudamire might make the regular season better, but in the playoffs he's bound to be a non factor.

Lack of Athelticism and mismatches did hurt us but we still could have won game 7.
