"If it was my job, I'd know," Majerus said during a phone conversation Tuesday afternoon. "But it's not my job. I coached Bogut and recruited him. I know Williams. I think they almost got to take Bogut if they like Mo Williams. But I think five years out in this draft it will be Marvin Williams who will be the best player. Don't forget, it took a long time for Tracy McGrady and Kevin Garnett to emerge."

Majerus said some months ago that Williams would emerge as the best player in the 2005 draft and he sees no reason to change his mind now.

"If I make a statement I pretty much stand by it," Majerus said. "And I had made the statement way at the start of the year about Marvin Williams. I recruited him, too, so I know him. I had seen him play and we were on him early in Utah. The top five picks in the draft, in my estimation, unless there's a head problem, are all going to be really good players."

Majerus likened Bogut to Cleveland center Zydrunas Ilgauskas and rejected the comparison some have made between Bogut and Jack Sikma or Vlade Divac.

"He's kind of a hybrid," Majerus said, referring to Bogut. "Someone said Sikma and someone said Divac. He's not the passer Divac is and he's not the shooter Jack was. I coached Jack with the Bucks. Jack was a great shooter. Bogut is a good shooter.

"He shoots a tip-toe jump shot kind of like Ilgauskas. He's like Ilgauskas, but a better rebounder."

The thumbnail analysis by some observers about Bogut suggests he isn't "athletic" enough.

    Majerus disagrees.

"He's athletic," Majerus said. "He's plenty athletic. He's got to become more physical. Athletic would be lateral quickness, bounce, hang time, second jump, hands, running the floor. Bogut fits all those."

Bogut's experience in international competition is a plus.

"See, one thing that's helped Bogut is that he played professional ball last year with the Australian team," Majerus said. "So he went over to Europe and played. Then he went to the Olympics and played. It's easier to play the five spot because in the five spot there are not a lot of decisions to be made. You rebound, you defend, you post up. On a perimeter spot, particularly point guard, it's much difficult to orient yourself."

As for Williams, Majerus said he was like another former Tar Heels star.

"He's James Worthy with a jump shot," Majerus said.</div>

while i agree with majerus that bogut needs to get more physical, i also agree that his international experience will be a huge plus. so many of these young bigs have little experience, especially against quality competition, but it would appear that bogut already has a leg up in this category. i think that he will take time, but i think that he can come in and go 8-9 points, 6-7 boards per game. he'll have his big games, and he'll hardly show up in some others. but he can block shots, and is a very good post passer. i think he will take a couple years to develop, but i also see no reason why he can't be a 16 point 10 board 2 block 3 assist per game guy for a long time in the NBA.
