How good will Jameer Nelson be next season? What are your predictions for next year and his whole career? I think Nelson will put up 12 and 8 next year and will continue to help the Magic win games. At the end of last season he stepped up and started playing very well with 10+ points in every game but one in March and he scored 30 points against the Pistons in April. He showed glimpses of being a great PG and I think if he is given the playing time he will develop into a nice player in this league.
He will be coming off the bench and probably given about 25 mins a game, so I predict about 10 and 4 for him.
It all depends on if he starts, if he does he'll average about 16 and 7 i think, along with 4 rebounds n two steals, the kid is good. . . less tallented but honestly, because of the all around package, better than franchise.
I hope Jameer gets a bigger oppurtunity to play more minutes next year. I think if given the oppurtunity he deserves, he can put up about 11 and 4. If Nelson starts with Francis at the two guard, then I see him with averages of about 12 and 6.
i've been a big fan of jameer since his college dayz.. man i'd love for him to do real well so he can give a middle finger to all the GM's who drafted scrubs instead of College Player of the Year

I think we will go with Jameer, Francis, Hill, Howard and Battie again next year.
We'll need a good back-up Pg if he starts which he should. Maybe 12 and 5 if starting or even coming off the bench. We got the best steal in the draft(#20) and possible the best FA in Turk not counting Nash.

I'm wondering why so many peiople think jameer should come off the bench, he's clearly a starting caliber pg, for games he started this year he averaged something clazy like 15 and 8 along with like 5 rebounds, if that's not legit, especially for a rookie, i dono what is. I think give him a year and he's better than francis. I've also heard they'll move steve to the 2 and draft a starting 1. that's the most ridiculous concept i've ever heard, the only reason to move francis would be to start jameer. Can someone just explain this to me cause i really don't get it.

Like you said, if we move Francis to SG it is to play Nelson at the PG. As far as them drafting a PG I have told how I feel in the other thread and I still think that would be a very dumb move. If we take a PG, we will have to many guards trying to fight for playing time and it will slow the development of Jameer, a guy who has shown spurts of being a great PG in this league.
Matchup problems for our defense is your answer. If we start Jameer and Francis together than we would be so screwed at perimeter defense. Both are undersized and would get killed by the bigger guards backing them down. Francis IS NOT ABLE to guard the best guard, but he will have to, because no way can Jameer guard any 6'4-6'5 SG's. Last year it was alright starting Jameer and Francis, because our overall defense was so bad that it didn't matter who started. With Hill as our coach, our D will be at least kinda respectable(probably about 15-20 range). DON'T DRAFT A PG, JAMEER IS GOOD ENOUGH ON THE BENCH AND KEEP FRANCIS RUNNING THE POINT. Jameer has the talent to start, which is why I hated giving up a future 1st for him. Talentwise it's a good deal for us, but why did we give up a future 1st for someone who will be a backup for 4 years and probably leave after his rookie contract is up?
i was thinkin of moving Francis to the 2 as well, but then defensively u'd be well... pretty messed up. It's a touch situation. You could just say "F**K defense like Phoenix and have a ball"
Jameer will be better than Francis, I don't see any reason he wont be. He was the BEST pleter in college basketball for a year, Francis wasn't, he had some nice dunking and was a great player. Say what you want about the college game but i truly would rather have Jameer as my starting pg, but iof that is theplan we should trade steve for a 2. Jameer is not a defensive liability in my opinion, I never saw him just get backed in and shot over all year, he contested every shot because he worked hard, yah it's harder for him to be effective and shot blocking won't happen much, but guards aren't supposed to get many shot blocks. He got 7 steals in philly, I'm fine with him guarding any pg in the league, I'm just not fine with steve guarding the 2, andJameer can guard smaller 2s. Dwill be fine though, that's one hole, there are m,any team that have 2 or 3 holes and are still successful by overwealming the d on the 2 or 3 best players and making sure to contest other's shots when they can.
You guys remember the full court pressures we ran with dwight guarding the inbounder Deshawn helping and Nelson and Francis in the midcourt if the ball got passed or thrown to the mid court it worked alot they were confused. Nelson looks like a next AI to me as Dwight a next KG perfect future for us keep Nelson at point Starting we need him to get experience. The Bulls have Duhon at the point and Kurt at the Sg why cant we do that?
I was one of the doubters of Jameer when he came into the league but now I see that I was totaly wrong. He is a great player with the talent to start with Francis playing SG. He could be a 14 and 8 kind of player and help the Magic win some games next year.

The more playing time Dwight and Jameer get, the more they will help us in the future when we really need them. Since they are both young and still developing as players, we need to give them a lot of time to reach their full potential.
Jameer was awesome coming off the bench last year, I think he could definatly become a starter if he plays like he did last year. Gators said that there would be a hole in the perimeter, which is true, but I think if we trade Steve Francis, (which I think might happen), he will become our starting PG, and maybe we can get a large SG to play defense. But even if we don't trade Francis, it might not be too bad with Nelson at point, and Francis at SG, and like FlaBoy said, we could run a full court defense because that worked last year. I think he should start, despite his lack of size.
It all depends on who we draft and if we get a "true PG" or SG via trades. I think personally, that jameer should be used, he will average 16 / 6 / 4 (rebs) 2 (steals) maybe more, and over time definatly more. Combined with Howard, that is a 1 - 2 punch that we can develop.
What if we sign Tony Delk as a back-up Point guard some1 who hurts the Magic everytime we play him. Hawks vrs Magic(W) Nov.26, 2004 Delk: 20points,2reb,1ast,1steal Hawks(W) Vrs Magic Jan.31, 2005 Delk: 17points,2reb,2ast Hawks Vrs Magic(W) March.28, 2005 Delk: 13points,3rebs,1ast,1steal. A good back-up Vet to help Spark up in the bench rotation. Or what about Darrell Armstrong as a Vet it would give Barrett if hes still here a chance to play well with us. Also DA is well liked him in Orlando would he come back?
If he does come back hopefully he would take a paycut to retire in Orlando. I'm not crazy about Delk but Penny works for me.
