<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> The second part to this is that they have a plan in place to add a PG later in the first round. Atlanta would like to grab Jarrett Jack in the late first round area. A trade involving the Supersonics pick at 25 has been discussed. The Hawks would give up their 31st pick, the first in the second round, plus big guard Boris Diaw, who's skills are being wasted on a team that lacks scorers. The Hawks feel they could get Jack at 25, as teams in the mid first round have not showed him much interest. The trade makes sense for both teams, as Seattle would add a passing guard who would fit in very well with Luke Ridnour and Ray Allen.</div> <font size="1">Full Story courtesy of NBADraft.net buzz.</font> Very good trade for the Sonics IMO, but then again is Jack even still going to be on the board at 25? Diaw is a very good defensive player who is wasted in Atlanta (who want Williams, have Harrington, Childress and both Smiths) and can play both guard spots and probably a bit of three. Might mean Wilkins doesn't come back though.
I read this before. It wouldn?t be a bad trade, however, it?s just the start of the offseason, there?s a lot to come yet.
I do not think Jack will be available at 25. It just seems too low for a player like him to go. I can assure you that he won't get past the Raptors pick at #16 if he is still available.

I have the Raps taking Jack in my current mock (haven't posted it), given at #7 it's likely Paul, Deron and Felton are all gone. Of course it's only rumour, l just found it interesting so I posted it. Is Diaw an upgrade shortterm and/or longterm over Wilkins?
No doubt is an awesome trade if Diaw is a solid player. I cant lie...I dont watch much Atlanta Basketball lol. but the 31st pick may be able to get a solid player anyways without having to pay them round 1 money.
In this draft I don't think dropping from 25 to 31 will really do much damage at all, given the evenness of depth outside the lottery. Still don't think Jack lasts to 25 though. A more realistic scenario would be Seattle hanging onto 25, and then if Jack is there, pick him and then make the trade.
Depending on who stays and who leaves, this trade could work for the Sonics. Even if they pass on Jarrett Jack, they might be able to draft Dee Brown at #31, plus they get Diaw.
I definitely believe that there is merit to this trade considering that under our current collective bargaining agreement each first round pick is guaranteed a minimal 3 year contract. I don't think that we will be willing to pay a second round talent (which you may end up getting at pick 25, especially in this draft) first round money. Diaw is serviceable. I'd rather have Wilkins but considering that Diaw has two years remaining on a relatively small deal I wouldn't call it a bad move. He'd help out a lot defensively guarding the 1, 2, and 3. He can't score at all but he'd be a decent set up guy. Doesn't play like Wilkins offensively at all. Cutting costs is the top priority of the Sonics right now. No one is going to get offered a deal that will exceed their market value. The Sonics are essentially look at all the free agents (coaches/GM included) that they will like to keep as restricted free agents. Once Wally/Howard see what other guys are offereing them they will decide whether or not they want to match that offer (with an incentive here and there) or let them walk. Any Sonic that is going to hold out for more money from Howard is going to be singing Simply Red's "Holding Back the Years". I'll keep holding on (repeat 4x).
I'm a fan of Diaw's from back in his rookie year, so I'd like to see the trade go down. I'd feel bad about letting go of Damien, but it's business. Of course, the Sonics have a history of letting unaccomplished draft picks go somewhere else and having them blow up.
If Diaw is all defense, i say keep Damien because hes a good defender..sometimes he steals, blocks and intercept passes and stuff..and He can work on his offensive game but hes already shown he can hit some 3s and go to the rim..keep Damien.
I like to think I follow the game a bit, but I've never heard of this guy or seen him play...at first I thought it was a typo and we were going for that big guy from Clevelend, Diop.

I think you mean both Josh's Pwn3d!. I doubt Jack is there at 25, but this is interesting. A whole bunch of players can be taken from 25-31 since this draft is deep, so dropping down from 25 to 31 while gaining Diaw isn't that much of a risk. Diaw is just a horrible shooter though. He'll give you his above average defense and athleticism (which fits under defense), but on offense, just give him his space, because he can't shoot for jack. Ahh...I can't stop thinking about the draft. It's giving me a brain cramp. Arrive already!
