I dont think these are very accurate because mutombo's contract is much larger than 5 million. I amnt sure though about the details on the trade with chicago so i could be wrong. Weatherspoon is a whole lot of waste on our salary so he is great trade bait for teams that want to free cap space for next years free agency. Moochie Norris and Vin Baker are a waste of cash too.
Nah, Mutombo's contract is correct. He does make a lot more than that, because the Nets still have to pay him money from when they bought out his contract. This $4.5 mil is from the contract that he signed with New York. Jersey still has to pay him about $5 mil, so Deke still makes an awful lot of money.

So he has a total salary of of $18.7M for the 04-05 season which put him second on the list of highest paid player following Shaq. It seems that the Rockets have lots of aces for the 05-06 season. Weatherspoon,Wesley, Padgett and Baker will have their last year of contract. Moochie will have his last too because his contract for the 06-07 season is a team option. I'm sure that the Rockets will not excercise their option on him. Ward is also ready for a buyout after the 05-06 season. Anyway his contract is cheap. If they resign Deke and Barry probably it's also a one year contract due to their age. The Rockets can now have versatility in the trade market filling up the last few pieces of the puzzle.
Yes the Rockets have many attractive expiring contracts. They could quite easily pick up quality players from teams looking to dump more salaries. Based on overall salaries this season, there will be teams who will be near the nexts season's projected salary cap (of probably $46M) but still be over. These teams include: Clippers, Wizards, Caveliers, Pistons, Sonics, Bulls, Bucks, and Kings. Out of those teams, the ones that maybe looking to rebuild are The Cavs, Wizards, Bucks, and Kings. And if Ray Allen (who is a FA this off-season) leaves the Sonics, they might look to rebuild to. So what player could we get for our expiring contracts? Gooden? Haywood? Brad Miller? or maybe hometown hero Reshard? I'm not sure how much these sort of player can help, but there are some options near next year's trade deadline.
We'll most likely be locking Yao up for the long term this summer right after the agreement of a new CBA, so we might not be as flexible cap wise as we would think we are. If Yao gets a max contract which will kick in in the 2006-07 season, we can't afford to bring in free agents or take on players in trades that have big long term contracts, no matter how good they are. If we do, we could end up with 3 max contracts which would basically kill any hopes of bringing in a free agent.
I think it would largely depend on whether Cleveland would want to enter a rebuilding stage. Such a deal could be tempting for both sides, but the Cavs might be trying their best to win and have a great chance of keeping Lebron when he enters free agency. Also, I just checked up Gooden's contract and his will expire next summer, which would basically be the same as any player we could afford to give to Cleveland, be it Weatherspoon or Norris. Cleveland could be better off just keeping Drew and wait for his contract to expire IMO. Unless we are willing to take on the contract of someone else, that is. From a player standpoint, Gooden is also a bit of a question mark in that he is not nearly as consistent as Howard is. He can give you a 25/15 game one night and average 4/6 the rest of the week. A bit like Stromile Swift, with a more refined post game but less athleticism. Also, when Orlando tried Gooden and Howard together, both conexisted uneasily. We could likely see a repeat if Gooden reunites with Juwan.
I dont think Gooden is the type of PF we need...hes a decent rebounder, but plays inconsistently and doesnt play the best defense or with the most effort...I could see a player like him being in JVG's doghouse for a whole season or so...I think the PF we need one with range who can shoot and can also rebound and play some nice weakside defense...maybe such as a PJ Brown, Donyell Marshall, someone like that...
PF's I'd like the Rockets to pick up : Tyson Chandler (long, blocks shots and rebounds, young) Kurt Thomas (great rebounder and competitor) Malik Rose (tough competitor) Chris Andersen (athletic shot blocker and rebounder) Donyell Marshall (great shooter, also rebounds, blocks shots and gets steals) Brian Cardinal (inflated contract, but good role player and HUSTLE) PJ Brown (great work ethic and good rebounder, played with dominant big man in Miami)

I'd say Chandler and Marshall are both long shots. I think we should get someone young, or about to reach their prime. No one who is in their decline, because we have to many of those sort of players. So let's chop Rose and PJ off the list. Kurt Thomas Chris Anderson Brian Cardinal These 3 would be the most practical in your list. I don't know much about Cardinal though. Kurt is already proven in the JVG system and would be great for us. Anderson is younger and has good enough defense, plus JVG can improve him. I'd also like to see us make a run for Udonis Haslem, Joe Przybilla, and Dan Gadzuric. What do you think?
Cardinal I wouldn't want on the Rockets. IMO, he is a man without position, one who doesn't have enough post game to play the four and not enough quickness to guard and play the three. Add that into his large contract, I don't want him. Thomas also has a big contract, but he is a very serviceable player who could start under Van Gundy. He is also avaliable and could probably be gotten without much hassle. Shotblocking is questionable though. Andersen is a great hustle player, for off the bench and defensive purposes. However, how much could we get out of him? His offensive game isn't very developed and I doubt that at his age he could improve on it drastically. Haslem, Przybilla and Gardzuric are all very good choices, and the latter two are very good shot blockers at that. If they don't cost too much, we could go for them.
Well first the Rockets need to find out what kind of Power Foward they are looking for, many of the good and available picks should be defensive/ shooter/ or shotblocker, but id rather sign a PG with our MLE, and draft a PF who will turn out into a star, and he could start out great with the Rockets, Ronny Turiaf, Hakkimm Warrick, and Wayne Simien are great picks and we need someone that can rebound and play defence for us. A Tim Duncan type of player, scores, rebounds, plays defence and shot blocks

A Tim Duncan type of player, scores, rebounds, plays defence and shot blocks</div> Yeah lets just get someone with super human powers. Its very hard to find a complete player. Only the biggest stars have that deadly mix of shooting, defense, and a solid post game (including blocks and rebounding). The only three players who have mastered it are Garnett and Duncan (and Shaq, but without the shooting). I couldn't imagine us picking someone up that late in the draft with ALL those talents. Turiaf, Warrick, and Simien are good, but they could be missing one of those traits. Especially if they're undersized. None-th-less they are our best option and could play well.
Warrick is too frail to play PF full time in the league. Right now, he's a guy without a true position, as he has a small forward's body, but plays in the post. Until he gains some muscle, Warrick won't help the team much. Simien is too short at 6-8, and too slow to play the three. None of the three you mentioned are ones who are capable of becoming superstars. Warrick is the most ready though iMO.
Well If I could pick which 4 characteristics of a PF we would need, Id pick Rebounding and shot blocking, scoring around 10 isnt bad either. Wayne Simien is most like this because he averages a double-double, Our best rebounder (Yao) averages 8.4 rebounds per game, so we need a PF to show him how to improve on rebounding
Simien is 6-8. How good a rebounder could he be no matter how good his boxing out is? Four traits I would have in the ideal Houston PF is someone who can hit the 12-18 feet jumper, be a help defender, has height and could rebound on both ends of the floor. I've always said this and I'll say it again: Turiaf fits that mold the closest out of all rookies.
