<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Indiana Pacers assistant Mike Brown has reached an agreement with the Cavaliers and will be introduced as the team's new coach sometime in the next week, a source close to the situation said Saturday. Terms of the deal were not immediately available. It was reported in Saturday's Plain Dealer that the two sides had started negotiations. Brown will become the second-youngest coach in the league behind New Jersey Nets coach Lawrence Frank. Brown, 35, has been the associate head coach of the Pacers for the last two seasons under coach Rick Carlisle. Brown also was an assistant coach in San Antonio under Gregg Popovich and an assistant in Washington under Bernie Bickerstaff. Brown was responsible for the Pacers defense that finished sixth in the league in points allowed per game. Carlisle told the Indianapolis Star on Saturday: "If he does get the job, it reflects not only the job he has done for us, but also how much he's respected around the league. You don't get these opportunities unless you've been successful elsewhere. Mike is a guy that has picked up valuable experience the past three years. "He was an assistant on a San Antonio team that won an NBA title, he helped us win 61 games, then he was part of one of the most unusual seasons in team history. Based on the past three years, he showed he's ready to become a head coach." Earlier this week, Brown said his goal was to be a head coach. "I love the game of basketball, and I think the ultimate thing is winning a championship, and the next thing is running your own team," he said</div> http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/plaindealer/...9310.xml&coll=2
Wow this is suprising. I thought they were going to get a big name guy like Flip Saunders. I guess we will have to wait and see how good of a job Brown does in coaching LeBron and the Cavs.
Maybe he'll get lebron to play defense, his only realllly lacking thing, because he sucks at on the ball D.
I agree with Swish. I thought a bigger name was coming in. Oh well, at least Cleveland is starting to make some moves for next season. Now they should start working on the supporting cast for LBJ.
He's no Saunders or Jackson but I'll take it. He's considered one of the best assistent's in the league, so maybe he'll end up being a solid head coach after all.
I like what I've heard about this guy. I would prefer someone more proven, but Brown sounds like he could be one of the great young coaches in the league.
Dang, I wasn't expecting Mike Brown, but now that I think about it, he might not be too bad of a coach. His history shows he has the ability of being a good coach, laet's hope he will be able to get help for Lebron, so Lebron isn't required to take so many shots.
I don't hate Silas. In fact I respect him as a coach. But I believe he's better suited for teams in their infancy - ones who have an up and coming player who needs nurturing and development. He's proven that he could do that for Baron and Lebron. But as they step up their game and become stars, other teams adjust and pay them extra attention. At this point, that is where Silas' style no longer is effective. Since he's not an X-and-O's guy, he just regurgitates his motto of backin' the best player and neglecting the role players. I think Mike Brown has the potential to be quite effective for this Cavs team - hopefully one that will have an improved roster. And hopefully Mike Brown will be able to incorporate those role players better. Peace.
I think Silas may be the worst X's and O's coach in the league. An incompetent coaching staff was our biggest weakness last year imo. Silas failed to get the most out of the team. On O there were very few plays and the ones that we did run seemed very basic. On D the players didnt seem to know any basic defensive schemes. They didn't rotate or know how to defend the pick and roll or screens. Silas didn't know how to utilize the role players on the team.
If this guy is a good defensive coach, then I'm happy. I questioned this hire until I heard that this may be the man Larry Brown picked, so I am ok with it now.
