<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Taft was even shunned by the coaches of his own Big East Conference, who failed to nominate him for inclusion as a first, second or third team all-star. Instead, Taft received "honourable" all-star mention from the coaches, hardly a ringing endorsement.

"I think Chris is still very raw and he would certainly be better served . . . by going back to school," Babcock said of Taft.

"He has a tremendous amount of potential, there's no doubt. But there's a lot of guys with a great amount of potential. It's what you can do with that and whether you can develop that, that's the key."

Babcock said being able to assess whether or not a player has the desire, the willingness -- the heart -- to develop that potential is the most difficult aspect of judging talent.

"The way you measure it is, watching him over a period of time, all the background research that you do," he said. "And then spending time with him.

"But until you go through a season with a guy you really don't know. You talk to coaches and sometimes you don't really get the full picture. You have to wait until you go through the season with him yourself."

Taft gave serious consideration to returning to Pittsburgh and playing a third season with the Panthers.

But after discussing it with family and friends he said he felt it was in his best interest to declare for the NBA draft.

He is well aware of the criticism levelled against him, that his play on the court is inconsistent and that some question his work ethic. He has a simple response.

"When they come and say I'm not motivated enough and things like that it makes you want to go out there and prove them wrong," he said.</div>

That's garbage. Without that hunger, he's got no chance to make it good in this league. What a waste.

Now would be a good time to start, Christopher.

Apparently outplayed May in a 2-on-2 workout recently, there may be hope for the kid yet.

Surely won't slip out of the first round, it'd be a risk worth taking for a team in the mid to late 20s.

Chris Taft had a terrible year this year. He is the next Slava Medvedenko.

Taft may have looked at the help wanted ads and realized that sticking in the NBA would be the good life, but it ain't HS ball and you need to at least appear interested. He might have caught May after Sean had a big lunch. Mid 20's is pretty real,at least for a team in need of size. Even there I see a real dud potential, and still never saw that big upside

    :beerchug:

It could be worse though...he'll probably draft Monta Ellis at #7.
