From the Dallas Morning News <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">bigblue: Do you see any scenario in which the Mavericks trade Dampier? Eddie Sefko: It's a little-known fact that the Mavericks quietly shopped Dampier before the trade deadline. Thought they had a deal, too. Now, his value is even lower. But we've learned in the past that this team can trade anybody. Nothing is out of the ordinary. But it will take swallowing their egos and admitting Dampier was a huge, $70-mil mistake. Bottom line, I think he'll be here next October.</div> It looks like Mully did the right decision by not signing Dampier
looks like dampier will get to play for his favorite team....Knicks....the only team wanting dampier.

If you guys wanted to win more this year. You would've taken Dampier he struggles vs. two odf the best centers in the West and he automatically sucks?

He is completely worthless... we tried to warn the Mavs fans and they wrote it off as "he was playing for a bad team, that's why he wasn't motivated". He's lazy, he has hands of stones and he thinks he should be the first option. I'd still rather have Foyle with his contract than Dampier with his... at least Foyle shows up once in awhile and knows his role. We've only got 4 more years of Foyle while Dallas has Damp for 6 more.</font>
This is a sort of sweet revenge. I called it from the beginning. I thought that Damp was worth no more than a 4-5 year deal at about his then current salary. It was a huge risk to resign him. I wished nothing more than for Damp to succeed, but I did not think he would. Especially for another 6-7 years that his contract would have demanded....
Yeah Warriorsfansnc93 you definitely called it. The thing is had we kept Damp, who would have gotten the ball to him? It's not like Dampier is the kind of center that just dominates on offense and creates his own. He needs a dribble penetrator and good interior passer and natural playmaker. Nick Van Exel was that guy, Speedy was not that type of guy in our "make it up as we go along" offense, he kept his head down alot. Then Derek Fisher just sucks as an open court playmaker off the dribble because he can't beat his defender so that's why he stands around, overdribbles and shoots it alot. I wonder what Dampier would have been like for us had we landed Baron Davis by trading Nick Van Exel's contract and offering Speedy that offseason. Damp would get more touches from Baron's dribble penetrating and interior passes and he would provide more defensive presence than Foyle and more intimidation. Dampier is also way way stronger than Foyle and he gets dunked on way less just by occupying the lane. Also, hose hands are worse? Foyle's or Dampier's. They're about the same. Also Foyle doesn't intimidate enough because he looks smallish and doesn't play as strong or rough in the post like a motivated Dampier did. Damp was a beast in his contract year when he was our 3rd best option, but found himself in a similar situation when Dallas was primarily a team of shoot first, one-on-one type of guys, making him 5th option at best. I just don't like Foyle's physical skills or his lack of basketball skills and bball IQ. The only reason Foyle dunks one handed is because he's got like zero hops. Plus, let's not forget skills outside of shotblocking. He's barely a basketball player because he can't even handle a rebound, he misses layups worse than Dampier ever did, he can't put the ball on the floor, he fouls or turns over the ball at the worst times and he's still more raw than Dampier for an 8 year vet and doesn't make the team better on the court. He hustles, but heck sometimes you need basketball skill too. I'm glad we don't have Dampier though because we'll never know if it was the touches or if it's because he's been paid already.
Damp is a guy who has a limited offensive package based on a back-it-in postup style, and he is,and was,a bit unreliable in that role, yet not real apt to pass off well. damp, even in his weaker years,is/was a good rebounder and a pretty good position defender. He never had good hands, and I think Foyle's hands are about equal. Foyle runs better, hustles more, reacts quicker on D. Foyle played at around 270 this year,to maintain position better, but later,I think he was closer to 260,a more optimal weight for him,and his jumping and overall game were better. Running was paying off for the W's and I don't think they will have guys bulking up too much, looking to keep or increase quickness. Ultimately the $$$ were a big issue. Damp felt he'd been a scapegoat here, the W's recalled 2 years which he was injured for most of the season and Adonal, meanwhile was one of a very few options. The W's weird moves the past few years looked like a lemming rush over the brink until mid year deals turned everything upside down and created an instant chemistry. I'd have liked to keep Damp,if a reasonable contract was going to happen, but it didn't. While Foyle,Biedrens,Murphy, have flaws, they also have their strong points and a real pl;us was how the "New" W's, found ways to use the plus side and minimize the minus side. Adonal happened to better fit the team they became.
