<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">So the latest buzz - which is all around the internet at this point - is the rumor that Paul Pierce (and our pick) may be offered to the Blazers for the 3rd pick (and Van Excel's contract (that could be waived for cap room). I can't tell if this one is real or made up. But for the sake of discussion, lets assume it was at least talked about somewhere.</div> source Wow! I'm not really sure about that one. Is Chris Paul worth it?
woah!!! <div class="quote_poster">Quoting 44Thrilla:</div><div class="quote_post">source Wow! I'm not really sure about that one. Is Chris Paul worth it?</div> I don't know about this one. I can't see Chris ever being better than Pierce but if he can be around the same and you can get him for more years and cheaper it would work, I guess... this would put Boston in a rebuilding mode and would probable rule out the chances of bringing back Walker if they aren't going to be able compete.
WTF is Ainge thinking? A all-star for an undersized, Point Guard that has a lot POTENTIAL. Potential is the key word. He could be the biggest bust in the draft. He is overrated, Why would you trade a super star for a rookie. It just don't make sense.
imo i think it would be a grate trade for the blazers but im not so sure it is for the celtics yeah i agree with you ^ i cant see I can't see Chris ever being better than Pierce but we have to wait and see
Interesting trade scenario indeed. Maybe Ainge can expand on the deal to unload LaFrentz or Blount's contract for Derek Anderson, Ratliff, or Patterson (all expire sooner). Losing Pierce means Ricky Davis moves into the starting role, but this trade weakens the offensive punch off the bench. It would be a risky move by Ainge, and he has to have 100% confidence in Chris Paul being a superstar. Maybe Ainge does have his eye on a free agent and is trying to free up cap space to land him. I would imagine it would be one of the free agent big men they are targeting. Eddy Curry, Tyson Chandler, or Sammy Dalembert? Any of those 3 fit the Celtics uptempo pace Ainge and Doc Rivers are striving for. Teaming either of those 3 with Jefferson gives the Celtics a great young duo in the frontcourt. Plus you still have Blount or LaFrentz off the bench, and Perkins.
Wow... If I were a Celtic fan, I'd personally hate that deal. Chris Paul isn't a proven bonafide allstar like Pierce is.
If I were the Celtics, I would pull the trigger on this deal in a heartbeat. You can always count on Paul Pierce to be an all-star reserve every single year and give you consistent 20+ points, 6+ rebounds, 4+ assists per game years, but as scary as it sounds, Chris Paul has more potential than him at this stage and although any star-for-pick trade is risky, passing up on Chris Paul might be even riskier. The skills and talent Chris Paul possesses at 6-feet has scouts drawing both Kevin Johnson and Isiah Thomas comparisons. With Gary Payton not close to the level he was many years ago, Chris Paul is mature and ready enough to take over the reigns as point guard. Chris Paul?s height will always be a factor, however, his quickness, athleticism and shooting ability definitely makes up for it. He is also the pure definition of a floor general. Perhaps the best thing about Paul is because he is a low-risk, high-reward pick. Even if he doesn?t reach his Hall of Fame, next big thing, potential, he definitely won?t be a scrub or a bad player. His worst case scenario is a decent starting point guard on just about any team in the NBA. Paul Pierce doesn?t seem to be the right fit for the Celtics anymore. He seems to be more and more like a distraction and that is not the type of player you want your younger guys following especially since he is the captain of the team. I read some of Pierce?s recent behavioral problems and I don?t think someone like Chris Paul would ever get into trouble for something like that. Although he did punch that player (don?t remember his name) in the NCAA tournament, his emotions were running high and the recent death of his murdered grandfather was still fresh. According to what I?ve heard, Pierce has been acting this way even in the 2002 Olympics! In my opinion, this guy should be left off a team. Nick Van Exel?s expiring contract is another reason why I think this trade will benefit the Celtics. With the way the Celtics core being impressive and promising, I?m sure there will be many interested in signing with the team. Getting rid of Nick Van Exel?s contract, the Celtics remove about 13 million dollars off the cap where they can sign someone like Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry, or Samuel Dalembert as Shape mentioned. Suppose Tyson Chandler sees the positive direction Boston is headed in and feels the need to sign with Boston. That means the frontcourt will have Al Jefferson and him continuing to grow and they also get much better with someone like Chris Paul distributing the rock to them. They get better at two positions and while Pierce starts to decline, they?ll be flourishing into NBA stars and possibly superstars. I see this move as a steal for Boston and a good move for Portland as well who is looking to get better immediately. Pierce should compliment Zach Randolph well especially when he gets doubled. It also works out for the young Sebastian Telfair who can get into the paint more easily. They also get better with Boston?s 18th pick in this very deep draft. Ainge should definitely try and do this move because I see more benefits to it than detriments. Although Pierce is ?a bonafide all-star?, acquiring someone like Chris Paul and another potential star to compliment him is to good a deal to pass up. At the very least they get rid of the headache Pierce has caused and the bad example he?s giving to the young ones.
I hope this trade doesn't go down, Chris Paul is the next Speedy Claxton in my mind. I can't imagine Paul in a Blazers uniform. Yuck and poo!
I think this would be a terrible trade for the Celtics. Chris Paul is going to be good but not as good as Paul Pierce. Also, They already have Banks and West so why go after a young PG? If the Celtics do this move they better get someone good from free agency or I will be lost.
when i first saw this, i thought you meant peirce for gasol. but i do agree with swish15. i don't think having 3 young point guards would be a good thing. maybe you guys cn trade some away?
The odd man out in this trade. Gerald Green. He has a chance to go to Portland and he could be be better than either one of these guards. I hope Portland realizes that and doesn't pass up on him like others did on T Mac who is the constant person who Green is compared to.

He?s starting to get overrated and definitely won?t be able to contribute right away unlike Chris Paul and calling his upside as good as Paul is a stretch. Green was not as good as McGrady when he was in high school either and wasn?t even nationally ranked until his breakout senior year. The comparisons people make are terrible. Mike Dunleavy was supposed to be the next Larry Bird, Nene was supposed to be Hakeem Olajuwon, Dajuan Wagner ? Allen Iverson, Kwame Brown ? Kevin Garnett DeShawn Stevenson ? Michael Jordan Need I say more? Don?t follow those comparisons because nine times out of ten, they don?t end up accurate. Paul is on a higher level than Green ever was and his worst case scenario is not as severe as Green?s is. With Paul you know what you?re getting whereas Green most scouts don?t look at his negatives because most people are blinded by his ?potential.? If the Celtics ever made this move they have to be 100% sure Green is turning out great despite him having a huge margin of error especially considering his inconsistency on the high school level.
It's always possible that Ainge pulls the trigger on a deal to move PP, but I'd be greatly surprised if it was this one. Even with the stuff that the media blew out of proportion during the playoffs, this simply isn't enough and would almost certainly put the Celtics right back at the bottom of the Eastern conference and rebuilding thier way back up. Walkers not likely to be resigned and if he is, the only reason is because it'll keep media pressure off PP. Assuming Walker isn't resigned, then you can't send the 2 best players on the team packing and replace them with rookies and expect to win much. I like Ricky Davis, but he's not ready to be the teams leader yet.
