They want the benefit of a break to heal bodies after their high-energy series against the Phoenix Suns, but they have been around long enough to know that too much rest can result in rust. ?Sometimes relaxing is not that good for a long period. ... It probably would have been better to play after five days,? Manu Ginobili, a three-year veteran making his second trip to the championship series, said Saturday. But, Ginobili added, the anticipation of playing for the NBA title will keep the Spurs from getting too comfortable before Game 1 of the Finals on Thursday.</div> <div align="center">Source</div>
Layoff double edged sword Yes, to a certain point I would have to agree. Sitting around and waiting sucks and the Spurs are starting to chomp at the bit some. Still both Pistons and Heat are going to physically and mentally drained after this series and not much rest time. I wish that Wade would be at his best tonight to stop the excuses, if Pistons win but I want the Spurs to have to take it away from the Champions to be the real Champions and then tell Phil Jackson to shut his pie hole JT
Having this time between games will have its advantages for the Spurs, but it could have it's disadvantages as well. The Spurs will get more time to prepare for the finals than the Pistons, who after their series with Miami could do with some rest. But, by the time Game 1 comes the Spurs wouldn't have played in over a week.
Whoever wins, this is the way it should be. I've been thinking since last year that Spurs-Pistons in the finals will be great. The teams are almost mirror images of each other but Spurs have a better bench. Good luck to both teams. JT
The Spurs have no doubt been keeping sharp by practicing. The rest is a huge advantage to the Spurs. It gives them time for all of their bumps and bruises to heal. Duncan's ankles will definatly benifit from the rest. I wish the Spurs and their fans the best of luck.
