<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Sean Banks, who left the University of Memphis after becoming academically ineligible midway through last season, earned high marks Wednesday night in a predraft scrimmage.

Banks played 24 minutes and scored a game-high 19 points in his team's 98-88 loss at Moody Bible Institute. The swingman converted 8 of 12 shots, including three of six 3-pointers, to go with two rebounds, two steals and a block.

"He has a chance to recover," Tigers coach John Calipari said, sounding happy with the news that Banks appeared impressive.

Banks has hired an agent so he no longer will have college eligibility. Banks is scheduled to play again today at 4:30 p.m.

"I never lost confidence," Banks said. "I'm here because I need to play against this level of competition again." </div>

There's not a doubt in my mind that Sean Banks' talent is worth a first round pick. I just don't think that any team is going to want to throw guaranteed money in his direction with his highly publicized "off-the-court issues". He'll make some team like Atlanta or Los Angeles (either one) happy in the second round though.

Sean Banks looked very promising in his first year at Memphis where he put up 17/6 as a freshman. He looked like he was going to have a huge year this year by averaging 14 points a game and 6 boards through 16 games, but he got in some trouble with his grades and got into drugs at one point which caused him to miss half of the year. So he really had no other choice but to enter the draft unless he wanted to transfer which he would have had to sit out 1 year.

    Sean Banks .. what's wrong?

I have been following Sean Banks closely for two years now, and I must say, he is very talented and could match up against any of them cats going top 15. However, most mocks have him going mid-late 2nd rd!!

I'm fully aware of his off court issues, and the several gangs/thugging he's involved with, but you just can't pass on talent like this.
I like about everything about his game, and I'd expect some GM to take a shot at him late 1st or early 2nd. If not, I hope Babcock snatches him with either pick in the 2nd. His defence is something beautiful.

He could very well end up being the steal of the draft. Maybe the decipline that comes with the NBA life, and the responsibilities the Pro life brings could change him into a better person, but I'm difinitly liking him as a player.

You hit right on the nail what the reason he will go in the second round, his off the court issues. Any time that is involved in gangs and gets cut off his college team because of it becomes pretty serious. Banks actually makes Mccants' attitude issues look good. Yes somebody will take a chance at him because like you said he is an extremly talented basketball player and if you can just get rid of his off the court problems then he can be a pretty decent player in the NBA. If I am the Sixers sitting at 45 with this kid on the board, I'll take the chance...
