<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">CHICAGO -- After two days of the NBA pre-draft camp at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, the message most scouts and coaches have for Pitt junior point guard Carl Krauser is this:

    Stay in school.

Yesterday was the first day the teams played official games at the camp, and Krauser struggled in his matchup against Maryland's John Gilchrist. Krauser's team lost, 98-88, and Krauser had only two points and four assists to go along with three turnovers.

Gilchrist, who Krauser guarded throughout the game, had 15 points and two assists.

Although scouts generally don't like to comment specifically about players, it is clear the overwhelming sentiment about Krauser is that he has some work to do before he is ready to contribute to an NBA team. Krauser has yet to hire an agent so he has until June 21 to pull out of the draft.

New York Knicks assistant Michael Malone, who is Krauser's coach this week, said he will advise Krauser to return to school for a season to work on his shooting and to work on making better decisions with the basketball. He believes Krauser has a future in the NBA if he does some work on his game.

"To play in the NBA, you have to have a definitive NBA skill," Malone said. "When you look at Carl, he doesn't really have one. He isn't a great shooter, he isn't a great passer, but what he does have is he has great desire and a toughness and great confidence, and he is only going to get better because he wants to.

"But he's got to develop a midrange game and he's got to tone down the unnecessary fancy stuff and work on becoming a solid, consistent point guard. He's from a great conference, he has a great coaching staff at Pitt. He has a lot of room to improve so I'd tell him to go back, work on his weaknesses, improve his strengths and next year he'll have a leg up because he knows what this process is about."</div>

The problem is that Krauser is already 24 years old. If he went back to school, he'd be 25 years old the next time he declared, the age of some seven-year veterans. I think he should leave school now. He's not going to be drafted either way, so leaving now would just be helping him make the most money possible in whatever minor league he ends up in.

Pittsburgh is going to really struggle next season with their two key big men gone in Taft and Troutman. So Krauser really isn't going to have much to work with, which will make him their primary scorer. But I would have just stayed in the draft if I were him since he's never going to be more than a backup either way.

I think some NBA Team should give him a shot. Sign him as a FA.
