<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Deputy commissioner Russ Granik told members of the NBA's competition committee Monday to prepare for a lockout, four league sources, including two NBA general managers, have told ESPN.com. League spokesman Tim Frank was more circumspect when confirming Granik's remarks, saying Granik told the committee "to prepare in case of a lockout." Sources, some at the NBA's pre-draft camp in Chicago, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, are not optimistic that the league and the players' union can reach agreement on a new collective-bargaining agreement before the current contract expires June 30. </div>source
JUNK! This is not what the NBA needs right now. I hate the idea of there being no summer leagues to visit and check out the young talent coming in. Damn agents and damn greedy players! Does the Player's Union not understand this is the BEST offer they are going to get? From here on out the offer is off the table and the owners and Stern already said it's going to be worse. Stern does not bluff on these issues either. There is plenty of talent around the world now to replace the current NBA players. Every year there is a new recruitment of high school and college players.
It's tough to be sympathetic with players who are making millions. It seems to me that what fans want coincides more with the owner's interests than the players.

Don't be so worried, you guys act like that article says there will be no season next year. They were just telling the officals to be prepared for a lockout. All it is is a "just in case" situation.
It would be devastating if games are lost due to a Lockout because of <font color="SeaGreen">greed and money $$$. </font> Interest in the game of basketball is at an all time high throughout the world. To eliminate basketball at the highest level now would be idiotic. It seems like the NBA takes its fans for granted . They feel like even if they force a lockout the fans will always come back. Like any other business the NBA must remember to keep its customers happy.
I don't think that any games will be lost. After what hockey went through, I don't think the basketball players would be dumb enough to do the same thing. I really do think the agents are causing the most problems in negotiations however.

The reason why ticket prices go up each year is to pay for the outrageous contracts the players make. The fans buy the jerseys and the fans make or break a player's career. It's absolutely ridiculous for the players to not give in to these changes. These changes are better for the game of basketball, which in turn is better for the fans. I'm tired of seeing teams get anchored down by a player giving half the effort and making an enormous amount of money just to sit on the sidelines. It's a lot better if the teams have option to cut these type of lazy, unmotivated players without suffering any penalties. Reducing the length of guaranteed contracts should in turn increase the competition level. Not only do the players make millions to play a game, they make millions in endorsements off the court.
why does everyone always say "damn greedy players and damn greedy agents" or "its hard to be sympathetic with players that are making millions". Thats true i guess....but what about the owners that are making billions? I dont know who's right, but i know that both parties involved have no shortage of cash so why blame one for being greedy and not the other.
