<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Avery:</div><div class="quote_post">I agree with you, Duncan is not a superstar but it all really comes down on how you define "superstar". In terms of entertainment value, money, skills, endorsements and basically putting butts in the seats and so on, Duncan is not a superstar. If defined in that particular way Yao and LeBron are arguably the best superstars in the game. But in terms of overall accomplishments and just flat-out basketball Duncan is beyond superstar status, he's a walking GOAT similar to how Jordan was in his days. Personally, I say who cares about entertainment when it comes to being a superstar, entertainment doesn't win games playing the right way wins games even though it may be boring.</div> ^..Yeah you summed it up for me, so i dont gotta answer to all these people. Duncan is a great player, but is he really an entertainer?..Thats what superstars are, entertainers. Yes @ Dakeem also, that is exactly what i meant.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting dakeem1:</div><div class="quote_post">Well first of all, what is everyone' definition of a superstar? The way I see it, superstars are celebrities. They're popular and influential. Tim Dancan is none of those things. I like Duncan alot, and I think he is one of the best in the league. Maybe even THE best, but that doesn't make him a superstar. Being a superstar has nothing to do with skil or talent, its about popularity. Britney Spears is a superstar, but she can't sing or write songs if her life depended on it. Do you understand what I mean? TD ain't no superstar, just one of the most talented and skilled players in the history of the NBA. Theres a difference.</div> Well if that's the case then who in their right mind would want to be a superstar? But I see what you mean. It really does depend on the definition of the word, but to me (and probably to more people than you would think) a superstar is someone who gets it done, and is influential to those who want to do the same. Tim is popular and influential to his peers (in and outside of bball) and his fans are usually pretty intelligent/refined people who have a deeper perception of the game and life in general. He knows this and he likes it that way. Think about it; anyone with eyes can appreciate a flashy dunk or circus act that's spectacular for only a moment, but it takes a person with a whole lot more to them than the average fan to truly see and appreciate Tim Duncan and what he stands for.
Your a TD fan, your just gonna keep coming in this thread and keep backing him up. TD is a good basketball player, but not a superstar, take it as it is. Michael Jordan, an example of a superstar with talent and skills..everything he does, from taking a clutch jumper to a sick dunk in the game, hes a superstar because he makes everything entertaining, he plays with alot of heart/emotions/entensity and energy..TD does not..TD may play with alot of heart, all players should, but he doesnt bring anything else to the table but a hook shot, a boring 2 handed throw down or a bank shot from mid range. And when he blocks shots he makes it look boring and lame rofl.
Ok if in your guy's way of defining superstar, would that make Desmond Mason a superstar? Since he has flashy moves, he's popular, he can excite and sell tickets... TD is a superstar... plain and simple, doens't matter what the jealous people think, whose teams have lost to Duncan's over the years.
Well, cool then. If that's the case, Rafer Alston is a superstar. Good job Babcock. I mean who else could have landed a 'Superstar' with 5 Mil a year? And if that's the case as well, then Shaq shouldn't be called a superstar, should he? Wilt wasn't a superstar, and neither was Russel! Hey, I'm going by your definition of Superstardome!
I think that Tim Duncan is a very talented player but I wouldn't call him a superstar. Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Kevin Garnett and LeBron James are superstars. Even though Duncan has won championships and has MVP awards, LeBron James is a household name because of all the media talking about him and because of the way ESPN praises him. He hasn't achieved the things Tim Duncan has but because of his potential and his freak of nature athletic skills he is looked at as a superstar by many people today.

Rafer Alston????..Rafer Who???..To be a superstar you needa be popular and also have some skills lol, nobody knows who Rafer Alston is cause his team sucks, do you ever see him on commercials and stuff?..No??.. Mr. Wade your just stupid. Desmond Mason can dunk but hes not a superstar, because most people dont know who he is..he doesnt have sponsors and endorsments out the ass. Stop trying to be sarcastic with me, you know what i mean by superstar but you just keep acting dumb and saying stupid stuff. <font color="Blue">Personal attacks are not allowed and will not be tolerated - Hunter</font>

Skip to my Lou. He is very popular, and I have seen him on a bunch of commericals and stuff. Stuff being the And1 mix tapes.
I know he was skip to my lou, he was a superstar in the And 1 world, but in the NBA he isnt really a star, he cant do the same moves and travel and put the ball off peoples heads and stuff, lmao.

And don't start copping out by bringing Jordan into this guys, he was beyond any type of classification. Hmm, maybe that's why the label "superstar" doesn't fit well with Timmy. Kinda like how calling Jordan a superstar seems to sound insulting since it sorta brings him DOWN to the level of Kobe, Shaq, LeBron, Tmac and all those other flashers. Interesting.
Superstars (Celebrities/Diva's) Tracy McGrady Kobe Bryant Allen Iverson Carmelo Anthony LeBron James Dwayne Wade Yao Ming Shaquille O'Neal Kevin Garnett Superstars (True Superstars in the game of basketball) Tim Duncan Shaquille O'Neal Kevin Garnett Kobe Bryant Allen Iverson Jason Kidd
What's the criteria for "true superstars of the game," though? Would Steve Nash count, given his MVP season and all his exploits in these playoffs? I think Duncan is one of the top two or three players in the game today, and only second to Shaq amongst players in the post-Jordan era. If you had to choose the greatest players of the 90s, 00s -- I think you could only put three players ahead of him (Jordan, Hakeem, and Shaq). David Robinson and Karl Malone deserve mention as well, but Duncan was the far greater playoff performer. That's greatness, right there. With that said, I don't think he qualifies as a superstar.

I can't see him being a better player than a KG or T-Mac. Thats just my opinion.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting B-22:</div><div class="quote_post">He is a star but doesn't have the luster of a superstar player. Duncan is the best player in the game in my opinion, but his style of play is foreign to todays style of play. These days kids are not watching the NBA to see the fundamentals, they want entertainment. That's why Duncan is a popular guy with most of the young generation.</div> People who only like alleyoops and stuff like that are Globetrotter/showtime fans and not basketball fans.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I think Tracy McGrady should be added to the True Superstar list because he is at the same level as Kobe and AI.</div> I agree. The ONLY thing that I have against McGrady however is that he's never got pass the first round. Other than that, he most def. qualifies as superstar in my eyes.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting legendisdope:</div><div class="quote_post">Duncan is probably only liked by Spurs fan. I dont know anybody around here that likes Duncan. Hes a boring, but a good basketball player. What makes him boring is, he just goes there and does his job..lol, which i respect. But he shows no emotions neither, hes like someone with a no-adredaline problem. Hes just so boring to watch. Tim Duncan is not a superstar, hes an all star. Superstars are people that fans enjoy watching, like Lebron, Kobe, Wade, Kevin Garnett..Those guys are superstars because they are fun.</div> You are right about one thing, Tim Duncan is not a superstar; TD is a LEGEND! the other clowns like lebron, wade, etc are just flavor of the months. Tim Duncan is the best player in the NBA by far! (and I'm a Bulls fan )
