Now that the Heat have been eliminated for a few days now, I think this is the appropriate time to start a thread like this. This draft is very talented, and a player picked at number 23 could very well be picked at 30-35. IMO, the Heat biggest need is a PF/big. They have their key perimeter and swingman players for now (Wade, Wright, EJ and possibly DJ). At their 29th pick in the draft, their isn't great talent PG talent at the PG spot (Daniel Ewing, Nate Robinson, Louis Williams to name a few) so I think taking a swingman or PG is out of the question, for now. They need some size upfront obviously, since Shaq and Zo aren't getting any younger and whether or not Haslem comes back, he needs a solid backup. Ronny Turiaf is the guy I'm looking at, well before NBADraft.net had us taking him. He's a hard nose player at roughly 6'10, 250 who's not afraid to bang down low. He holds his posistion down long against all the bigs, regardless of their size. In college he was an excellent rebounder, especially on the offensive boards. He's a bigger, with more game version of Etan Thomas. What would you like to see the Heat do with 29th spot? Who would you want them to draft?
The Heat could draft a young big man or they could draft another guard mainly a scorer. If they drafted a guy like Salim Stoudemire (I'm not sure what pick the heat have so that may be farfetched if they had like a high first round pick) they would definitely improve their offense. They need a reliable third or fourth option because Eddie Jones has been inconsistent, and Haslem doesn't score enough to fulfill that type of role on offense. A guy like Salim would provide some instant offense for them. That way, the Heat could use their MLE and sign a guy like Stromile Swift or Kwame Brown to upgrade their frontcourt.
If I were the Heat I'm trading out of the 1st Round to avoid having to pay a guaranteed contract. Without any cap flexibility every dollar saved counts for the Heat. In this year's draft a player drafted in the 40's could easily prove to be better than a player drafted in the late first round. From there I would draft a big man with the best upside. After Shaq is gone, the Heat have a future trio of Wade-Wright-Woods, so it makes sense to draft a young bigman prospect to eventually run with those 3. It's unclear who's going to be around, but there should be some intriguing players left to select from. If I couldn't find anyone to trade with this year, I'd unload the pick for future considerations.
I think we have many quick guys like E Jones, Wade and maybe Wright if he gets to play next season. I say we get some quality power forward to either start instead of Haslem or back Haslem up. Needless to say, I would love to keep Haslem.
I think Miami should look for a guy at the 3 or get a big cuz Zo might not be coming back. so im guessing your teams priorities are SF and PF/C. u can make a case about getting a PG, but the quality drops off right after jarret jack. the only one i can see as being any good would be nate robinson in the early 2nd round. but hopefully the heat have a successful draft, and do good on signing FA's!
Well I think that they need a pg because Damon Jones is leaving. If they trade to get an early enough pick in the second round, they could take Nate Robinson, or Salim Stoudemire. I think that Daniels and Watson are going to want the full MLE and here, you could take a gamble and like Shapecity said you wouldn't need to pay the guaranteed contract.
