Sure, Shaquille O'Neal promised his Heat teammates he'd win a championship for them, but he didn't say when. I can hear Shaq telling the Heat, "Wait till next year."

I can also hear the Lakers saying, "Wait till the next decade." LOL! [IMG]

Shaq has said that the Pistons beating the Lakers while not double teaming him last year was the biggest upset in the history of the NBA playoffs. If that is true, then the Pistons' beating the Heat is the second biggest because the Pistons did not double team Shaq again.

Larry Brown has exposed Shaq's age and weaknesses: he can no longer cover the pick and roll, he cannot come out on shooters like McDyess, can no longer get offensive rebounds, cannot run on the fastbreak, is no longer a shot blocker and cannot stay healthy an entire season. Laker fans have watched Shaq's skill and health decline over the last three seasons while his ego and self-promotion have grown proportionately.

Shaq, you will make the Hall of Fame but please stop trying to tell us that you are the greatest ever.

Even though Shaq failed on his promise, it doesn't take the Lakers off the hook. The Lakers tied for last in the Pacific Division last year, and had one of the worst, if not the worst record's in the second half of the season. Shaq failing to make the Finals and win it all is the only bright spot most Laker fans can cheer about. It's actually depressing how fast the Laker franchise fell from being a contender to a pretender.

As a long time Laker fan I've been through the rebuilding process before so I don't have the same 'overnight' success story some Laker fans seem to have. Rebuilding takes a good 3 to 4 seasons before a team can climb back to the Finals. The Lakers have some nice building blocks, but step 1 needs to be establishing home court dominance again and reviving consistent effort every night. With the current roster the Lakers are arguably the worst team in the Pacific division still. There's no denying the Suns and Kings are both better. The Warriors are ready for a breakout, and the Clippers are even turning the corner.

Last year the Lakers had one of their worst records at Staples Center with 22 wins and 19 losses. Prior to last season, it was rare for the Lakers to reach double digit losses at home. The Lakers need to re-learn how to win at home and then focus on winning on the road. Unless a blockbuster deal is made I don't think the Lakers are good enough to make the playoffs in the West next season. My expectations are for a .500 record, and I'll be thrilled if they can exceed 41 wins.

So as much as Laker fans like focusing on Shaq losing, Laker fans have to realize the team has a lot of work to do itself.

I'm just thinking back to the All Star game when Allen Iverson said that Shaq was the best of all time.

Anyway, Wade has been more important than Shaq this season and Alonzo has played better than Shaq. The only problem with Alonzo is that he gets in alot of foul trouble. If Alonzo was starting and played about 25mpg, it may have been a different story.

I just realised that the Laker board has the most posts and topics in it out of the seperate team boards. So much for us being traitors and supporting the team thats winning.

Let us hope that Detroit's victory over Miami, despite the Heat having home-court advantage, will persuade Shaq to shut his mouth until at least the start of the new season. I am so very tired of reading that Miami is the best team that Shaq has ever played for, and that Dwyane Wade is the second coming of Michael Jordan.

After watching Shaq not touch the ball near the end of Game 7 against Detroit, it occurred to me: He didn't have to go to Miami to find teammates who wouldn't give him the ball. He had that here.

At least Shaq couldn't pin that vacation-inducing Game 7 loss on Kobe, Dr. Buss, or the city of Los Angeles.

Dwyane Wade, watch your back. We've seen it all here already.
Now that Shaq has proved that he can't carry a team, will all the Shaq lovers get off Kobe and Dr. Buss? Dr. Buss traded Shaq when he had some value. Now Miami is stuck with a broken down Shaq who can't even average 10 rebounds.

After all, everybody knows that Miami is where people go to retire.

In 2000, upon receiving the NBA's most-valuable-player award, Shaquille O'Neal declared, "From this day forward, I want to be known as the Big Aristotle."

Could he possibly have known that it was Aristotle who initially formed our concept of tragedy? [IMG]

The point is both team didnt win championship you can talk all you want about how far you got. But at the end of the day its a failure if you didnt win. Lakers knew shaqs best years were behind him so they made a trade that was best for their future. Sure they didnt do so good on their rebuilding season but the future looks pretty good. It is sorta funny to me though that Shaq hasnt talked smack about kobe ever since they lost the finals. I know he would ripped on the lakers and kobe if he woulda won so I am glad hes gone.

It was more that Kobe was telling the media to watch out for the Lakers. He was being and confident but he didn't make a direct statement and say "the Lakers will make the playoffs".

He actually did...during the All-star break in an interview with a local reporter (i forget who), he promised that the Lakers would make the playoffs.

    O well...

I belive the Lakers were around the 7th seed during the all-star break but once Rudy T left they went down to lottery status. Anyway, if Miami didn't make the finals i would call it a faliure because they were the top seed in the east, had homecourt advantage, and Shaq was constantly talking trash. Not to mention that Shaq is declining and that could have been their best shot to get into the finals.
