<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In the fall, Glenn Robinson's world was spinning off its axis like one of those dishes in those old plate-spinning bits on the Ed Sullivan Show.

"The two things in my life that I love the most, I was losing," Robinson said. "My mom and basketball."

Robinson struggled mightily in Philadelphia, a shell of the former all-star he once was. This season was a disaster, as he was passed over for young players such as Andre Iguodala, and came down with injuries that were dubious to many.

"All I know is at the beginning of the year, I came in in great shape," Robinson said yesterday. "Jim O'Brien said I was in great shape. I was the MVP of the first few days of practice. I went from that to being on IR to just about being traded or waived, all of this stuff. I really didn't understand that."

Robinson could deal with not playing. But his mother, Christine Bridgeman, was diagnosed with terminal cancer in October - just as things began to fall apart for him professionally in Philadelphia.

"My mom didn't really want to put it out there for the whole world what was going on with her," Robinson said. "People in Philly gave me flak about that, thinking that I was mad or upset because I wasn't going to start. That wasn't the case. My mom was sick."

By putting Robinson on the injured-reserve list, the Sixers actually did him a favor. Because he wasn't part of the team, he was able to spend a few precious weeks with his mother at home.

"At the end of the day, when I wasn't playing, I had a chance to go home a little bit and see after my mom and take care of her, and go with her to appointments," Robinson said.</div>

Good read. It's always different when you hear the second side of the story isn't it? Like said in the article the 76ers did him a favor by putting him on the IL, but at the same time they were doing him a disservice because it sounds like he was in good shape the whole time. In my opinion it looks like the man has actually changed, there were rumors of him in better shape and even Jim O?Brien said it himself that Robison was the ?MVP? of the first two weeks of training camp. On the top of that, we all know the Spurs don't sign losers to their team; they don't play with that kind of stuff. Now the NBA season is near its end and it looks like Robinson will be getting a ring. You have to wonder though, what if he would have actually got the opportunity to play for Philly; he might be able to have made a difference in the 76ers season.

I wonder how Steven A. Smith feels about himself now.

Pretty nice article. It sorta makes you think- I know its changed my outlook on his situation a bit. It really makes you wonder how the Sixers would have ended up had they just let Robinson play and let Korver be the spark off the bench. If he was really that fit and in shape, I can't think of any reason why O'Brien wouldn't play him. However, I guess the organization were just trying to showboat him or make his stock rise to allow us to trade him for a player with a smaller contract. Still, it makes you wonder- what would have happened if Iverson was able to play with a second scorer in Robinson that was healthy and in shape?

I remember someone said that Screamin A Smith was badmouthing Big Dogg while he was caring for his mother days before she passed away. If he said anything about him off the court, then that's just totally being an ass. Does anybody know what he said? Was it baskeball or off court related?

Well whatever Stephen A. Smith said he apologized a several shows later. He made it clear that he was not aware that Robinson was mourning over his mother death and he sincerly apologized to Robinson. Back to the topic...

I was one of those rare people that didn't badmouth Robinson. I remeber giving my 2 cents in a handful of threads saying that O'Brien should let him play. The guy was the MVP of training camp and he gets no burn? It just didn't make sense, he was one his last year of his contract and you know he worked his butt off to get into shape and now that he was finally in shape that could have at least give him a try. We struggled early on with Korver in and out the lineup, so that would be a perfect time to utilize Robinson. His defense is not there, true, but Korver defese isn't so hot itself. He's been a spark a couple times for the Spurs thus far, but I'm sure if we played him early on in the season and he found his groove he would be more than a spark club, perhaps a consistent threat. Who knows?

Exactly. He must be good for something and in the time of need that we were in a couple stretches of the season letting him play just one game (20 minutes or so) wouldn't hurt. I think it was a dumb by O'Brien. Again the guy was in shape, experienced and vowed to try and work himself back into All-Star like form.

another good reason for obie to get fired. i mean, this guy made absolutely no sense. he is a stubborn piece of ****. i can't believe he still has 3 years left of his contract. he should just go and rot in hell.

Yeah, Avery and me had a couple of talks about how O'Brien should use him because the 76ers were struggling to create offense, and make the shots. Robinson could have provided instant offense right off the back, it is to bad that he didn't get the opportunity to play for the 76ers.

Glenn would've added a lot to the Sixers...just think of their lineup after the Webber trade!

    Dalembert
    Webber
    Robinson
    Iggy
    AI

thats a crazy nice lineup...but I'm glad to see Glenn doing well in SA after the tough season he's had...I'm kind of interested in as to where he'll end up next season...
