The latest episode of "Costas NOW" on HBO features Reggie Miller. He talks about various things, but then he takes Bob Costas onto the court to teach him how to flop. They went over two different flopping techniques(on air, at least): 1) The Legkick- Reggie showed Bob how to stick your leg out when you take a 3, so that it may strike another player. The key to it is pretending like the other player hit you, usually by falling on the court, crying and whining. "3 shots!", said the Referee. 2) The Arm Pull- When you're defending a player and they are driving towards you, you grab their arm and yank them into you. After that, you raise your hands in the air and flail them as if you've just been stabbed. Next thing you know, it's an offensive foul and you're heading the other way. I'm sure he had some more flopping tips, but that's all they showed. So much for integrity, huh?
To me, this stuff is part of the game. Sorta like the elbowing and stuff done by the big men. Its not legal, but it happens. I think that the NBA is so competitive, that every player is looking for an advantage. So if you have a way to make it appear that you are getting fouled, why not try it? This is done by more players in the league not just Reggie. With that being said, I do believe it was wrong of Miller to go on air and teach how to do this. I don't know, but something about that just seems wrong to me.

I know Manu was paying attention in class because he becoming a pro at this stuff.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting MrJ:</div><div class="quote_post">It's amazing how after 17 years in the NBA, the officials still never picked up on this.</div> Haha you're a Knicks fan, you probably have seen this the most. I think that the last few years, he was getting the calls becuase he was Reggie Miller, not because the refs didn't pick up on it.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TheTruth5:</div><div class="quote_post">the flopping, arm pull, and legkick are all cheap but as Sebastian P said its all part of the game.</div> it shouldn't be though... It should be called more closely and flops shouldn't be considered good defense considering that most of it is acting not basketball.
Flopping is fine...it exists in every pro sport to some degree. If the refs dont see it its fair game. On defense i'm always giving cheap shots....is part of the game, its what makes it intense and action packed.
I don't really believe that flopping is that bad. I mean, if you can get away with it, fine. If you can't, it will soon be on everyone's lips and you won't get those calls.
