^So as of right now the tallest player in the suns starting 5 is 6'10.Its an obvious lack of size thats going to be a weakness for them, especially on the defensive end.The Suns need a banger/defender whos around 7 feet. If I were Pheonix I would try to trade Kurt Thomas for a guy like Kelvin Cato.
The Suns do need more size but we are not trading Kurt Thomas, it took a lot to get him and we need to keep him, but we do need a taller center.
The Suns can't play small ball forever... they're trying to be the new age Dallas Mavericks, for real. It might work for awhile but the bigger better teams always pull through. Rarely do you see small ball teams win championships. Right now, the main contenders are: Spurs, Pistons, Heat, Pacers.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Mr.Wade:</div><div class="quote_post"> Rarely do you see small ball teams win championships. </div> Just to answer that the Pistons, center, Ben Wallace, is one of the smallest centers in the league, so the Pistons play small ball too and they one a title, but the Pistons do play better defense.
Just because 1 player in the starting lineup is small doesn' tmean it's small ball. Plus Big Ben has that nick name for a reason... Rasheed is 6'11, Prince 6'9, Rip 6'7, Billups 6'2... that's not very small compared to Phoenix.
It's about the same now: Kurt Thomas 6'9 Amare Stoudemire 6'10 Shawn Marion 6'8 Joe Johnson 6'7 Steve Nash 6'3
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting da pimp 1:</div><div class="quote_post">It's about the same now: Kurt Thomas 6'9 Amare Stoudemire 6'10 Shawn Marion 6'8 Joe Johnson 6'7 Steve Nash 6'3</div> Who knows if JJ is coming back... and you're giving way too much to Marion and Nash. Marion is 6'7, and Nash is closoer to 6'0 or 6'1 than 6'3. Even than, his height doesn't matter because his defense is so poor. Thomas is nowhere near Bens level of physicality therefore won't be able to play the 5 in the West consistently. That's enough of Phoenix... I already voiced my opinion on who I thought would win.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Man your gonna eat your words. I can't wait till the Suns face the "Raptors"</div> I was just stating the facts... I know the Suns would kill the Raptors night in and night out. I'm just telling the truth, the Suns are brutal at defense, and are undersized. Those 2 don't go well and is hard to win a championship unles they play some D and get some height.

Marion is 6'7 225 Nash is 6'3 JJ is closer to 6'8 not 6'7 Amare is 6'10 Thomas is 6'9 Ben Wallace is 6'9 240 Kurt Thomas is 6'9 235 Size is not an issue for this team. We won 62 games last year as a smaller team. We were weak defensively and on the boards. Phoenix aquired Thomas who does both very well. He can guard Timmy, KG, and many other bigs. Amare will also play 5 or as he calls it point center (pc). Ben Wallace guards bigs and Kurt Thomas does so as well (the real Big Ben is Roethlisberger, not Wallace). In the next 2 years Kurt Thomas will have a ring, then we can talk about how small he and his team really are.
So far I have not seen any team make a move to surpass the Spurs as the favorite to win the title again. The teams closest to winning the title last year have a lot of question marks, while the Spurs are bringing everyone back. Detroit Pistons - Lost Larry Brown Miami Heat - Lost Keyon Dooling & Damon Jones they have no backcourt at this point Indiana Pacers - Lost Reggie Miller, Can Artest behave? Phoenix Suns - Need to re-sign Joe Johnson & add another big man I think the Nets and Rockets made the best moves so far for teams competing for a title. Both needed to improve their PF position, and both teams got players to fill that void. The only issue with the Nets will be IF they can stay healthy. They have a solid starting five, but their depth is still not good enough if Kidd, Carter, SAR, or Jefferson get injured for a significant amount of time. The Rockets add an athletic PF to protect Yao from getting into foul trouble and a big man able to run the floor with T-Mac. However, Stromile Swift has been inconsistent his entire career. A change of scenery could change that, but still it's a concern. Also the PG situation is a little up in the air still.
Losing Reggie is huge, but bringing in Granger and Jasicevicius, plus potentially having Artest, JO and SJax for 82 games is huge, especially with Harrison looking like a keeper.

However, I'm curious to see if this team plays with the same motivation they played with last year. The Brawl helped bring this team together and they thrived in the 'underdog' role last year. This year they are going to have expectations placed on them and will be considered a favorite in the East. They were also inspired to get Reggie a ring before he retired last season. Without Reggie in the locker room, who keeps this team focused and becomes the 'glue guy' when the team is down on themselves?
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Size is not an issue for this team. Marion is 6'7 like I said, Amare is 6'10, he's got some size, but isn't using his full potential if he plays center. There is a big difference between Kurt and Big Ben. Although they are the same height, and same weight, Ben plays SO much stronger and IS so much stronger than Kurt Thomas. Ben is a 3 time DPOY winner, and can block like a fiend. He can play weakside defense, on the ball defense and be a bruiser too. There's a reason why Wilkens and Isaih didn't like Thomas as their PF/C and wanted to get him out.
