Obviously the biggest free agent in Houston's spotlight is Yao Ming. Fortunately Yao and the Rockets are not in what you would call an average free agent situation. What usually happens in the team plays coy, trying to make the player think they might not be worth a maximum deal. Meanwhile the player makes a lot of noise about all of the teams that are interested in his services and how he will have to wait and see who calls before making a decision. The Rockets do things differently. Owner Les Alexander makes it clear what he wants and he puts his cards on the table. He said before the start of the 2004-05 season that he would sign Yao to the maximum extension allowed as soon as he could get the deal done. Yao, likewise, put his cards on the table when the season ended. He loves the direction this team is headed, he loves Houston, and he will gladly sign Alexander's maximum extension as soon as the free agent embargo lifts. </div>

Basically stuff that we already know but it pretty much sums up our free agent situation. The problems that I have with it are that Padgett probably won't be excercising his player option since teams might offer him more since he has shown he is a good role player this year. However, the main problem I have and that glares out is that Vin Baker is excercising his player option. He's been trash all year round and I definitely don't want him at the powerforward position because he probably won't be in shape. We can definitely do better in my opinion for the powerforward position.

I've written a Rockets free agent article for the exclusives forum. Trip will do a Rockets draft article first, then I will post mine.

I hate that vin baker situation. He wants to stay with this team and be a factor. Meanwhile, the rockets have too many 4s and will be shopping for one this offseason too. I dont see where he will get playing time, but he just needs to ***** retire.

If he uses his play option, I think Houston management would be smart enough to trade him along with a few others such as Weatherspoon since they are either expiring or buyoutable. Still, its bad news since its one more thing have to worry about.

I think Yao should stay in Houston, and think he should accept whatever contract is offered for him, unlike Shaq I dont think Yao would want to make over 30 million, which is way too much, I think he should maybe make about 8 million at most as soon as his rookie contract is over.

Also the Rockets have some overpaid players, Weatherspoon isnt worth 7 million, Vin Baker and Torraye Baggs also need to become free agents,Moochie Also, thats about 11 mill worth players that dont do anything.

At least they are good for trade bait. They're useful to trade with teams such as Clippers, Atlanta, and New Orleans that want to clear out caproom since those players have expiring contracts or contracts that can easily be bought out. But I mean hey, every team needs at least twelve players and usually more so I guess they do their job of filling the spots of the team and being reserves.

I hope Padgett stays...I think he had grown defensively, and gives other teams mismatch problems with his outside shooting...he's like a poor man's Robert Horry, but he is a great percentage shooter, can rebound and pass, and is very smart out on the floor...

I feel that yao will definitely stay in Houston...I believe that les will do everything in his power to make sure Yao stays, not only because Yao is a great talent, but also because Yao makes him so much money...I think Wesley is gone for sure, and I've even read in other places that Sura is as good as gone as well...

With the latest news that Padgett has opt out his contract, he became a free agent. So he joined Barry,Mutombo,Bowen and Braggs in the Rockets free agents list. Baker has excercised his option for the money. We already know that he doesn't have anything to offer and he'll be spending his time either on the bench or in the injured lists. He must admit that his days are over but $3.8M is hard to ignore and pass up. Maybe he'll be able to contribute playing on losing teams if he gets traded.

Yao will sign the maximum contract extension. The Rockets are willing to offer him that and he should get a Kenyon Martin-like contract in the 7-year, $85 million range.

As for Moochie and Baker, they can't become free agents just because you want them to. Okay, yeah, we could do that by waiving them, but that would mean we're still responsible for paying them whatever is left on their contract.

7 Years that good, we get to keep him till hes a veteran, I hope we keep him like we kept Hakeem and I hope he earns clutch city a ring. I like Yao and I would like him to stay as much as possible and I would like his stats to go up and I would like for him to improve, I want his future to stay in Houston and I would like for him to retire IN HOUSTON and retire his jersey IN HOUSTON.
