Take a look around the League and compare other C's. Just becuz hes' agile enough to play the 4 doesnt mean he's a natural PF. Next thing we know, people will consider Lebron a PG with his handles.</div> He only played C after Nesterovic got injured and because they Mohammod who I think is the C now and Duncan is back at PF.

Very tough question. At this point, I guess I have to say Shaq, only because Shaq won 3 championships, while Duncan won 2 at this moment. In terms of offense, there is no question that Shaq is levels higher than Duncan. After all, he is the most dominating player, probably ever since Wilt. While, Duncan is also a dominating offensive player, he never demanded tripple double team to stop him. However, Spurs' strength always has been defense, and every defense runs through Duncan. By doing so, Spurs' defense always has been a horror story for other teams. Because of Duncan in the middle, Spurs are always capable of winning championships, and with Duncan's defense + very good offense, Spurs always has been probably the most balanced team since Bulls. In other hand, Shaq's team was never known for excellent defensive team, although Shaq has an ability to make his side kick a great player. So, I guess I will decide whoever wins more chamionship at the end. And, since Duncan is one game away from winning his 3rd championship ring, I will just take an easy way out. They are tied ...
As far as skills go you have to say Duncan. Duncan does a lot more with what he has than Shaq ever will. I feel like as a player Duncan is the smartest and most well groomed in all of basketball and probably in the last 15 years. There are plenty of fringe 7 footers who have nothing for talent and coordination and Duncan manages to ooze with all around ability at this staggering height. Given the same body as Shaq I believe Duncan would be dropping around 45-50 a night, however he doesn't have the same "god given" talent that Shaq does, so he is forced to use technical talent which he dominates in today's game.

Shapecity, you're using rings won to judge how good a player is? Rings are won by teams, not individuals. I think Duncan and Shaq are both good in their own respects, I think Garnett is also very good, he can play any posistion.
Shaq is no question the most dominant but Duncan is the better player. Duncan never played with Dwayne Wade, Kobe Bryant, or Phil Jackson. Could Shaq score consistently on a guy who is the same size as he is? No way, his whole game is being more gigantic than the other player and if he cant muscle his way within 6 feet he will not make a bucket. If Duncan went 1 on 1 with a guy who was his size he could still score on him because he doesn't rely on super fat/muscle/athleticism like Shaq. FG% doesn't hold up in this argument, Shaq never takes shots that are outside on 6 feet. Shaq isn't the best center of all time, I place Wilt and Bill Russel ahead of him and Hakeem, The Admiral, and Bill Walton not far behind. The fact is if Shaq faced guys who had a body like he did, he wouldn't be thought of as a great C while Duncan goes against guys that are his size every night and still scores and rebounds and blocks. To be a great player you should be motivated to be the absolute best you can, Duncan does try to and he isn't gifted with tons of athleticism, Shaq on the other hand needs to have a hissy fit and be traded to decide to get into shape. Shaq also makes excuses and makes fun of other team's players and then cant lead his team to the finals. He was talking trash about the Wallaces during his series in Detroit, they had no comment and won the last two games and sent Miami home at Miami's home court. Now who looks like an idiot? Shaq may not pick up his option and force the Heat to resign him to a gigantic contract, not very loyal for a guy who promised to bring a ring to Miami, shouldn't he want to lower the payroll? Basically Duncan has respect, desire, and skill that Shaq will never have.
During the Tim Duncan Era, the Spurs have the best record of any major sport. I think speaks pretty highly of what type of impact he has had on the team, especially since he has been its cornerstone since 1998.

I just pointed out how both players have been in the majority of the Finals and Tim Duncan has a chance to tie Shaq for Championship rings at 3. Winning a championship is just one variable to compare the two players, that's why I asked, "What else does Duncan need to do to be considered the more dominant?" I think 3 or 4 years ago it would be unanimous, Shaq is the most dominant big man of our era. However, Duncan is slowly closing the gap, and has a better window of opportunity because of his age and the situation he's in with the Spurs. Kevin Garnett is a great player, but he's not in the same category as Shaq or Duncan.
The point about his dominance is only because no one is as gigantic as him....is pointless imo. I can just say Duncan's only dominant because no one else is smarter, quicker, stronger, and the list goes on than him.
