I think it is much more solid a option then trying to move up in this year's draft to take an NBA unproven point guard in the lottery. I know when you are talking about recoving from such a near fatal type of accident, you have to think about Bob Hurley(who's story is pretty similar to that of Williams). How Hurley's body recovered for the most part. But he never recovered mentally, therefore it took away the rest of his NBA career basically. But I still like the risk with J Will. We can bring him back into it slowly, of course because we have Kidd. But also because a guy like Vaughn can take pressure off of throwing Williams back into the fire so quickly, with Vaughn being under contract for next season, it can be a trial & error year for Jay Williams. I remember reading last summer that he was playing in a summer Pro league on the Jersey shore. So despite no being in the NBA for the last couple of seasons, he has been playing. And keeping in shape....
Why would New Jersey want him, they have no where for him in their lineup. They could throw him on the bench and not play him but there would be no use. If i was NJ i would focus on getting a big man with potentional to improve NJ's post game

And then completely takeover as the backup in 06/07 season. I think New Jeresy or a team like Miami(who has Wade, Dooling both can handle and play pg) would be the ideal place for him to go because those teams will allow him to bring his game back at a slower pace because they already have quality at the point guard position. But still needs a bit more, but he wouldnt be rushed back into a big minute role. I dont think Williams needs to comeback next year to a team that needs him to play 30 minutes a game ,right away, it is going to take some time for him to get his mental approach back.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting briang8818:</div><div class="quote_post">Jay Williams is as unproven as anyone in the draft.</div> I agree but one, he has already shown if healthy that he can have success in this league. And two, we would not be using a 1st round pick to acquire his services, so for those reason I think giving Williams a chance is more of a solid option.
that would be interestin if they could get him. the problem is wether he can play a whole season witout a major problem
The bench is maybe the weakest point on the Nets roster. Any move to bring in a backup pointguard of Jay William's quality, without sacrificing other options (keeping draft picks) is a plus. From his earlier journals and articles I had thought he wanted to come to a team and contribute right away, or at least be guaranteed of a major role, but if he's willing to come to NJ, I say take him.
The nets really have no depth in there bench once VC and Kidd leave the court the team goes to shambles. If you bring in Williams you will be getting a special . He is a former number two overall pick, and made the all rookies second team his rookie season before he got injured. He is also a Duke product so you know he is a good person in terms of character and leadership on the court.
true Jay Williams coming to the nets would give them a great player to back up another great player in Kidd.
Our annual risk move. See the outcomes of: Ron Mercer, Eddie Griffin, and Alonzo Mourning. Rodney Rogers and Deke in a way too.
I think Jay could be a good backup for the Nets, atleast a better one than Vaugh or that European guy that got crossed up by Pargo when he was a raptor. Jay will be a good player or atleast the player he was before the accident if he's having success against guys like Felton. He could be a serviceable player, look at Dermarr Johnson who was a lottery pick by the Hawks and he got in an accident and look at him now he played for New York, and Denver as a serviceable player and he's still got potential to be a good player. I think the same could happen for Jay.
jay williams was no joke when he was a rookie but that stupid mistake of an accident set him alot. so he would be a decent risk but i cant make a judgement on somebody i havent seen play in awhile
