<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"The draft is not that far away. That's our primary focus, but we are working on filling our coaching vacancy in parallel, but it's taken a little bit of a back seat right now to getting ready for the draft," Allen said. "Since I've been owner, we've never had a draft pick this high, so believe me, we're working overtime to make sure we maximize our opportunity in the draft this year." Allen watched -- along with the team's upper management -- as the Blazers evaluated Nate Robinson, Rashad McCants and Martell Webster during a pre-draft workout Thursday afternoon. And, judging by their comments, they might have found a player worthy of the third pick. Webster, a 6-foot-7, 233-pound prep star from Seattle, was described as having an NBA-type body, a solid perimeter game, the ability to create his own shot, and something general manager John Nash wasn't expecting to see. "What we learned today is that Martell Webster is capable of defending (shooting guards) at a very high level," Nash said. "(His) defense was very good and his ability to dribble the ball against pressure -- he can dribble the ball low to the floor -- was very impressive. "He certainly is under consideration at three (selection)." The coaching search has focused on Seattle assistant Dwane Casey, Phoenix assistant Marc Iavaroni and John Lucas. Casey reportedly is in serious discussions with Minnesota, the Blazers have interviewed Iavaroni and though Lucas pulled out of consideration, he remains a possibility. </div> Source
Everyone I have talked to was says Webster is the best high school player in the draft. He is the most polished coming out of HS, has a complete game and an NBA built body already. The only reason Green got so much hype in the media and public was his atheticism and potential. I personally wouldn't be suprised if Webster gets picked up by the Blazers. However knowing that both CHA and NO are going to be taking PGs, it might be in the best interests of Portland to trade down, if Webster truly is the guy they want
