<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Like most everyone else who cared, Wally Szczerbiak had been hearing that San Antonio Spurs assistant P.J. Carlesimo was the front-runner to become his new Timberwolves coach.

Seattle SuperSonics assistant Dwane Casey popped out of relative obscurity during the long search, but there's apparently a reason for that: Insiders say it took a while for the Wolves to get permission to talk to Casey.

Casey would be fine with Szczerbiak.

"Their style of play in Seattle was pretty successful ? run and gun, put the ball on the floor, maximize their talents," Szczerbiak said Thursday from his home on Long Island, N.Y. "Their players seem to enjoy playing for Nate (coach Nate McMillan), and I'm sure that's a carryover for Dwane."

Szczerbiak said he doesn't have a preference for his next coach.

"I haven't spoken to anyone in the Timberwolves organization since the end of last season, so I've been pretty much out of the loop, but this is a decision for the powers that be," he said. "Whenever something happens, it happens. I have confidence in the decision they will make, and we'll move forward. It will be nice to have a little bit of a foundation to move forward on after a pretty tumultuous season."

Casey is reputed to emphasize defense.

"That's one good thing that definitely needs to be emphasized," Szczerbiak said. "There's a reason why Detroit and San Antonio get to the (NBA) Finals. First and foremost, they stress defense. It becomes ingrained into their heads. Offense is something they know they can do, but when the baskets aren't falling, they can fall back on defense."</div>

Well maybe Wally can work on his game at defense too since he is one guy that need to improve defensively. He is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to lack of defense. At least, he recognizes the problem of this team.
