Q&A With Billy King <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">You had a chance to really work with Maurice Cheeks in Chicago for the first time since he returned to the Sixers, talk about your relationship with him? In talking with Mo, there?s a lot of give and take. A lot of input on his part and there?s a lot of thoughts on our part. I think that?s what it takes to make things work. In working with Larry (Brown), that?s how we did it. He would give me his opinion, and I would give him mine. And then we sort of came up with what would be best for the franchise. Talk about Coach Cheek?s transition to the Sixers head coaching position. It's been good. The bigger thing now is getting the staff in place, and a lot of our focus is on putting in a staff that is very supportive of him. And it?s been great talking to Mo about it since he went through it once in Portland and knowing some of the pitfalls he?s made and trying to do something different. Are we retaining any of our former assistant coaches? They have been given permission to speak to other teams. Any update on the status of Jamal Mashburn? I met with Jamal and his representative in Chicago, and he is looking at retirement. He is into the business world. We had a good meeting, but the chance of his playing for the Sixers is slim. Is there going to be an official announcement on his retirement? I don?t know what the timing is going to be. How are Chris Webber?s off-season workouts going? Chris has been working and doing some swimming in Atlanta. He?s going to be in town to visit with Mo and our medical staff. But he?s anxious to do everything he can to rehab and get himself into top shape. Allen Iverson seemed quite happy with Maurice Cheeks being named coach. How do you see his role changing next year, if at all? I think Allen will build on what he did last year. And what I mean by that is the leadership he showed, understanding what it will take from him to win a championship. And that?s where Mo will be a benefit because he?s done it. I don?t think his role will change much. We?ll ask more from him from a leadership stand point. It seems like it took Jermaine O?Neal six seasons to establish himself as a top big man. Samuel Dalembert is entering his fourth playing season, do you think he is on track to become a dominant player? Well that?s what Sam wants. Sam doesn?t want to be looked at as a young center but as a veteran. We talked about that and said, ?Sam, with that comes responsibility.? He understands that. The fact that we have a young center is over. We have veteran center in Sam Dalembert.</div> <div align="center">Link</div>
Some good questions asked here. Webber`s health update, how things are going with Mo, even an update on Mash, I hate seeing he has to retire, but maybe he can become associated with the 76er franchise. BK did say he liked the business world. I`m glad Billy talked about the draft too, talking about what he saw and Chicago and all the young talent.
I have to say as I read the question regarding Jamal Mashburn my heart skipped a beat. For some reason I was expecting some good news like maybe he's knee is getting a little better and might be able to give it a go, but I got the complete opposite of what I wanted to hear. And that's, he's good retired. If and only we had Monster Mash we would defiently be a championship contender in my opinion but at the end of the day it would all really come down to how healthy he and C-Webb really are.
I actually never anticipated that Mashburn would ever return. He hasn't been in basketball shape for a while and it would probably take lots of time to even be a shadow of who he once was. I just don't think even if he did return that he would help us at all. Hey, Mashburn retiring isn't all that bad. At least then it would help the salary cap situation and give us some flexibility. However, I'm thrilled to hear that Webber is working on rehabbing his knee. I couldn't imagine another season with his mediocre playing level. With him about eighty percent of who is was teamed up with Iverson- they should be able to meet the great expectations of the media if they successfully work out the chemistry.

An most of that has to do with how Webber will come in he has to be healthy if we want to do anything in the East an come close to teams like the Pistons Heat an Pacers... Plus the Bulls are going to be a team to watch an will only get better with time. So we need Webber Iverson Iggy an Sammy to come together... Leaving a open spot at the SF/PF for maybe a draft pick or free agent is my hope. I really hope we can pull out something to get into the first round of the 2005 NBA Draft... If we could get into that part maybe depending how people move up an down from now till the draft getting a Wayme Simien,Chris Taft,Ike Diogu,Julius Hodge even more intersting to me would be Charlie Villanueva I know people are down on the kid now but with his size an potential. Allen Iverson Andre Iguodala Charlie Villanueva Chris Webber Samuel Dalembert That would give a lot of size an we would be very athletic up front even if Webber wasn't 100 % Allen Iverson 6-0 Andre Iguodala 6-6 Charlie Vilanueva 6-11 Chris Webber 6-10 Smauel Dalembert 6-11 that would be great imo could give a lot of match up problems if we could somehow get into the 1st round via trade...
Actually, I would rather we draft a point guard. Instead, I would move Iguodala to the wing and bench Korver since he would be dynamite and instant energy coming off the pine. Thus my rotations would look like this- PG- Iverson/Draft Pick/Mckie SG- Green/Salmons (or vice versa)/Mckie SF- Iguodala/Korver PF- Webber/Either Rogers or free agent C- Dalembert/Jackson That rotation would at least utilize all our young guys and not leave potential wasted. I think Iguodala and Korver would be a great duo at the small forward position while Green and Salmons would work nicely or end up like last year's attempt at Green starting. Either way, I don't think it would be too bad of a lineup- any thoughts?
I'm not sure if Korver will be back next year imo I think he will be the odd man out..... I see them putting the money into Sammy an maybe Green. I could even see both Korver an Green not being on this team starting next year.... Even if we went an drafted a PG I think this is a year we really need to get something out of the draft to keep moving forward with our young core. I don't think we can just sit an take our pick at 45..... We need to do more than that if we want to contend next year... I say do anything we can to get into the middle of this 1st round an grab a talent who can come in an play because there will be players there like a .... Sean May Rashad Mccants CJ Miles Hakim Warrick Raymond Felton Maybe some kind of sign an trade that we send Green or Korver to a team an a future pick or money for there 1st Rounder.. Someone looking for a guy who can put up points or a 3 pt shooter to spot up around a good C like just per say the Grizz or Minnesota.... Iverson Mccants Iguodala Webber Sammy I know i'm putting out a lot of names but I really belive this is the way we need to go this year

Sean May Rashad Mccants CJ Miles Hakim Warrick Raymond Felton </div> Billy King has already stated that he will do everything possible to keep the young core (Green, Korver, Salmons, and Dalembert) together for years to come. See Here Besides, if King didn't want Green, he could have traded him I heard, earlier in the season for Sprewell or something like that. Korver already has a big fanbase in Philadelphia so trading him just wouldn't be smart from the organization. Dalembert will stay, trust me, King knows that he is a great player with lots of potential. Besides, all those guys are restricted free agents so we can always match any teams offer. As for trading into the first round with the 45th and a young player, I don't really think its possible. For one, Raymond Felton's supposed to be one of the three best point guards in the league. Besides, it would just be stupid to draft him- talent wasted since Iverson's running most of the minutes at point. Anyway, a lot of the players that you listed above already are or have the potential to become better than the players you want to trade them for. Like, Mccants is better than Green and is just as good of a shooter as Korver if not a better ball handler. Oh yeah, and a lot of the powerforwards such as Warrick or May are being picked because the team simply needs a powerforward. So trading Korver (by the way, his stock is insanely high so I don't see a trade happening) or Green and a 45th pick won't be able to land us a mid 1st rounder.
I'm not really a fan of Korver sure he can hit the 3 but that's about it.... I can't see putting money into him that's why we have cap problems we need to let him walk let someone else play all the money we need to start making cap room sooner than later we will not have Iverson or Webber on this team an we will have to build around Iggy... We need to get back to the D that got us to the Finals not a spot up shooter who can't D a wet paper bag up even if he is trying to get better.... This team needs to take a major change in the next 3 years. We need all the cap room we can get to build around our Young "starters" Iggy an Sammy.... Oh an I was talking about a 1st not 45 if we can trade a future 1st an Korver for Vilenuva that's worth it to me..... A core of Iggy Sammy Vilenuva for the next 8 years we would be looking good once Webber an Iverson are gone.

Of course, it will be a long time before they leave since their contracts are six or seven years. I don't see why you don't like Korver that much. He's improving his defense- just check out how he was defending his rookie season compared to now. However, it really doesn't matter if you're a fan of him or not. In Billy King's eyes, he's marketing gold because he has a huge fanbase in Philadelphia. To trade him or let him sign with another team would cause him to lose a lot of money probably. I don't understand why you're so high on Villanueva. We can get a lot more for a future first round pick than him. Philadelphia in my opinion just needs to hang tight subtly get a young gun here and there since we have all the young players we really need on a team. Korver, Green, Salmons, Dalembert, and Iguodala already fill up five spots on the roster. I said it before, and I'll say it again. If you try too hard to go young, there won't be enough veterans on the team- which usually ends up with the team being a lottery team for years.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">yeah, just look at chicago. </div> They were horrible for like five years, you want that? And now look at them. They're going to have a hard time retaining all their young guys from free agency. Curry, Duhon, Chandler, and Pargo are all free agents I think and its obvious one of those guys are going to leave. It would be better just to have smooth transition from where we are now to a younger team balanced with veterans.

I would just as much let them leave for nothing because I don't see a reason to put money into them... An since when did Korver have a huge fanbase lol the only one who has a huge fan base in philly basketball on this team is Allen Iverson..... Of those 5 roster spots only two should be in Philly..... Plus there are random talks about Dally getting traded also.... Plus I don't think there is a problem being in the lottery for years once Iverson an Webber are gone why not rebuild for 3 years then have two young stars to build around Iggy with....

Korver has scored in the twenties or high teens multiple times this season. He has made tons of clutch plays for us. Of course- he has a lot to work on, but he still has plenty of time for that. I personally would even go as far as comparing him to Peja Stojakovic. Both are great three point shooters, good offensive weapons, and subpar defenders. Take a look at how successful Peja has been. As for his fanbase, ever remember that coat drive that he was having in I think February? He was supposed to sign autographs for everyone that donated a coat. Korver signed a total of 1,446 coats, you think that is a small fanbase? Green meanwhile has stepped up tons of occasions when Iverson was out. The only reason in my opinion that he has been doing so poorly this season is that O'Brien hasn't involved him in plays or not even play him altogether. I see him becoming a nice offensive weapon if Cheeks utilizes cutting and screens through Webber's passing ability. Salmons is a 6-6 point guard that has potential to become a solid player in the league. His size allows him to easily post up guards while also having the length to guard faster players as well. It makes him a very versatile player that has the playmaking abilities needed to play point while his size also lets him play shooting guard or small forward. All those guys are really underrated and I think we should at least offer them a reasonable contract to do what it takes to keep at least two of them.
1,500 people out of what how many people are in the Philadelphia area that's not many.. Without knowing the drive you are talking about i'm sure they just came to the game an brought jackets an got a pre printed autograph that he signed 1 an they just printed out a bunch..... Correct me if i'm wrong an he sat there an signed for each person 1 at a time.... Or if it was not at a game an was different because I don't know the details on your statement..... Plus Salmons has been in the league going into his 4th year this up comming season... He has never had a apg over 6 pts.... He can't even get off the bench through all the different coaches we have had. Why should it be any different with Cheeks in town I don't belive it will change. Salmons isn't going to just figure out how to play the NBA game out of the blue sorry..... Green I have more faith in but same boat.Going into his 3rd year never been able to do anything more than a bench role player never avg more than 8 pts per season... Had a lot of trouble getting on the court an they don't want to use him with Allen so when will the kid play...... I would not put any money into any of these players sure if you can get them for 10th 11th 12th man on the bench great do it but done spend any large amount of money on them....... Plus Korver can hit some 3's but he should not be a starter on this team. He can be used much better comming off the bench.

Chris Ford played him major minutes and he definitely exceeded expectations. His points and skills were like a shadow of the injured Iverson that season and gave everyone new found hope during that marred season with everyone injured. Who are you referring to "they?" It was only Jim O'Brien that refused to play him. King has only said good things about him and has time and time again refused to trade him. As for Salmons, if Cheeks doesn't utilize him enough, I'd say just trade Salmons. I'll I'm saying is, if he doesn't get playing time or gets traded, it'll be a shame if he prospers on some other team.
That's nice an all but who isn't going to come out to see a player if they have a chance but how many people went to the game that night.... I tryed to look at how many people were at the game but couldn't find it i'm sure it wasn't a full house or anything with it being the Hawks. If I found the correct info the FU Center holds 21,000 people so I would guess maybe 15,000 for the game vs the Hawks or about that number. That's just 10 % in that little random equation. As for Green 03-04 season 6.9 ppg 1.20 rpg 1.0 apg that is not a exceeding expectations to me ..... As for Salmons I belive he is a bust an has proven that allready.. But I guess we can just agree to disagree because we aren't getting anywhere

I wouldn't expect all 15,000 of those people to have donated coats since they might not have known about it or frankly just don't care. Then also weigh in the people who don't really want to stay after the game since they have places to go. I mean, after concerts would you see everyone trying to stay after to see the singer or band? Same situation here. Green was a picked 41st overall in the 03-04 draft. Really, would you expect anyone that low in the draft to put up those numbers? I doubt the organization really thought that he would have made that much of an impact his first year. You also have to think about how some games such as when Iverson was there, he would play like a minute or two. Meanwhile, in others when Iverson was out, he would explode to around twenty five points. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">But I guess we can just agree to disagree because we aren't getting anywhere</div> True that man.
in my opinion: korver= good 3 point shooter, good clutch player, has to create own shot, is like steve kerr and peja, will have sucess in the nba green= quick, better defender than most of us think, provides energy from bench, could start, good offensive weapon, likes to drive, need to work on passing, needs to get more playing time salmons= very versital, can play pg, sg, sf, good size, can hit the three at times, can do everything, just not really good at anything, bench player
