Tuesday is the deadline for potential draftees to pull their names out, so far there are a couple of surprises. Andriuskevicius and Petro's agents have both indicated that their guys are definitely going to stay in the draft. Niether is worth the #9 pick, but both are the type of high risk/high reward long-term projects that I'd like the Warriors to take a swing at. I dunno, the more I think about this draft, the less I think the Warriors can go wrong, no matter what direction they go in. I'd prefer they take a flyer on a risky pick this year, but the guys I'm talking about (Andriuskevicius, Petro, Bynum, Blatche) are guys that are going to be available in the mid-late first round. These types of guys will be available in every draft, and (hopefully) the Warriors will be picking in the mid to late first round next year. If they don't take a flyer on a guy this year, they'll have the chance to next year. The low risk guys like Diogu, Warrick, and Frye will be taken higher, but I also think there are free agents that could provide the same immediate help. Swift (probably more than the MLE), Gadzuric, Bo Outlaw, Przybilla (I believe), and Jerome James all could be available for the mid level or less. As for pgs, it's possible the Warriors could bring back Speedy if New Orleans doesn't pick up his option (which I doubt they would if they draft a pg). Then again, there are going to be high risk/high reward guys that are going to be available as free agents as well (Diop, Brown, Chandler, etc.) so it really doesn't know what direction the Warriors go.

I just hope we get the most bang for our buck and end up getting a steal or two from the draft. I pray we don't take Martynas Andriskevicus at #9 unless the plan is to leave him in Europe for about two years or loan him to some team for a couple years so he can learn how to play and compete against bigger bodies. If he comes here without snackin on some weight gainers and hitting the gym he's going to be washing out the taste of jock strap every game after he gets dunked on over and over. Free agents... Heck if Dasagna Diop has the motivation to learn some big man skills at Pete Newell big man camp and is coordinated to handle the lessons, I'd take a risk on him. So far he's very Foyle-like with lack of rebounding skills, plain rawness and lack of an offensive game, but he's one of the strongest, fastest 7 foot, 300 pounders for his size (might be an interesting offensive weapon if you clear a side for him and dump the ball to him). Speedy Claxton, I would love to have back, but that could pose a definite problem I'm sure Mullin will want to avoid which is the amount of salary we're taking on and our logjam of point guards. If he does get playing time, that makes Fisher the backup 2 guard or 3rd string point guard for the next couple of years. Also there is the possibility that all 3 point guards can go down with Fisher getting older, Baron and Speedy being injury prone. Chandler would be nice to have, but we'd have to outbid Chicago for him and I don't know if he's worth all that. There was speculation that Murphy might have been traded for either Curry or Chandler before the summer contract extensions deadline which would have been nice. I wish we could have landed Chandler then, at the sacrifice of offense for defense and versatility at F/C. We could be doing that with a cheaper solution like Dan Gadzuric or Zaur Pachulia, but I think neither are worth integrating into our 9 man rotation unless they can be a consistent offensive guy as well. I can't believe Pryzbilla is a free agent already. I was high on Pryzbilla last season before Mullin went crazy on locking up Foyle. Here was this 7'2 center that basically did all the things we were looking for in a defensive big man that had Dikembe Mutombo-lite, written all over him. It's too bad we missed out because we could have gotten him at a bargain as a starting center that can throw his body around, block shots, and keep people out of the lane. We need more toughness in the middle because we got a bunch of marshmellows that let the dribble penetrator fly right by and we got some suspect post defense as well. Kwame Brown would be a nice F/C to take a gamble on, but who knows if this guy is going to be a distraction for the team, there was the fact that the Wizards were winning, he was injured, he was moaning about some stomach virus and skipping practices without phoning it in, etc. Gadzuric would be an okay pick up as mentioned before, but doesn't Biedrins already provide that F/C that can run the floor like a guard? Plus, would we want him after Baron dropped a bounce pass right between Gadzuric's legs for a Biedrins dunk? Maybe Bo Outlaw can be a cheap, cheap solution. Good defender, good passer, plays hard (lousy shot/lousy free throw shooter)... but that's about it. Othella Harrington would be a better FA if we're looking for a fill in at power forward. Here's some free agents I was thinking that the Warriors should get Steve Smith G/F (former allstar, can still shoot, play defense is 6'8) Ha Seung Jin (if the Blazers don't match any offer because he's not in the plans) C Joel Pryzbilla C Mikki Moore C Zeljko Rebraca C Daniel Santiago C Ryan Humphrey PF Rodney Rogers PF Since Cheaney signed, I doubt we'll get a SF so cross Steve Smith off. With Fisher and Baron Davis as long term point guards, we might as well use a 2nd rounder pg, non-guaranteed on somebody like draft picks Aaron Miles, Oriene Green, or Wil Conroy. Oriene Green sounded pretty intriguing because he's a 6'5 point guard that could co-exist with Fisher at the 2 guard and Pietrus at the 3. Dunleavy/Zarko could then log some time at power forward. Also was thinking of getting a guy like Rodney Rogers that has 3 point shooting specialty and can play more like a power forward in the paint against the small forward and Zarko plays more like a small forward against the power forward he's guarding. Ryan Humphrey is an undersized power forward that still has potential about him and he certainly run and jump. All the other center free agents mentioned are either for potential or for need.
Draftexpress says- OUT.,,Jarrett Jack,Kosta Perovic, probably Aleksandrov IN- Diogu,Bynum,Marynas,DWAYNE JONES,Erazem Lorbek,Ukic,Randolph Morris,Vasquez,Deji Akindele Bynum private workout---7-0 1/4,No shoes...7-6 wingspan,9-3 or 9-4 standing reach ,33"standing vertical+37"one-step vertical. interesting.. Dwayne Jones staying in gives us a great high rd 2 opportunity. He proved big-time RBD,shotblock ability,so offense is the "project" part. At least he's ready for some "role" minutes G Green will workout for the Blazers-on his terms. Ike Diogu is staying in and has another WARRIORS workout scedualed Mocks on the web are still all over the place, many look like an NBADRAFT.NET mock from 4 mo ago with Martynas,Taft, still top 10 and Granger,Diogu,Blatche,Bynum all late first. Some are starting to look real, have begun to discard the hype and weed out slackers I still like Ike. I also still hope a package deal with Dunleavy gets us another rd 1,somewhere in the top 20,at least. Blatche,Bynum,Hodge are still middle-first players of special interest. Dwayne Jones and Salim seem to be bubble high #2 bargains. As to the FA stuff,I don't know who we have SOME shot at. Tyson Chandler would be ideal,A long young, very mobile player who for our run game can be the center for a long time. His RBD-Defense have evolved beyond expectations. He had offensive tools out of HS,and my sense is his scoring potential is quite good but he's really been focused on being a team guy. That he'd be more banger than gunner is quite a surprise.H Jin and Diop would be fairly cheap and the deal is they would need to be played, flaws and all if they are to develop. Whether the W's are into such a thing is uncertain. Casey Jacobson is a FA,a 2/3 swing and pure shooter who played for Monty. Jerome James began to show some game this year. Someone may be willing to overpay. As is the case with Adonal,James can look great-then Awful in a span of 30sec. I always liked Bo Outlaw. He didn't have much of a season and so we need to know if he still has the same stuff or not. Was a special role player.

I would love to grab some defense and size in Rnd 2 though.

Also with Andrew Bynum, anybody know what his game is truly like? They say its somewhere between Eddy Curry (not as talented offensively) or young Shaq (lol). http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=196 I get this feeling that Bynum will get hyped up because of shortage of 7 foot heavies that can battle in the paint. He should go to college and learn the right way on how to make his team better. I think the only thing that stands out about Bynum is he actually averaged double digits in high school for rebounding whereas guys like Eddy Curry did not, except for one year. http://www.mcdonaldsallamerican.com/thisye...ysbio.htm#bynum http://www.nbadraft.net/profiles/eddycurry.htm

He might be okay at his weight since he did win defensive player of the year in his conference. But then again, that's college and not the NBA.
